Job related question - what are your thoughts?
I have a wonderful opportunity to run a training on the weekends.
It requires 30 hours, which will run over 15 mts (2 hrs bi-monthly on a Sunday)
I will be charging a sum per hour to hold the training.
But, it requires a lot of prep time - at least 1 hour for each 2 hr training...
should I charge the same hourly rate for the prep time? So, the rate for 30 hours, plus 15 hrs of prep time?
How does that sound?
do you think it would make them cringe if they see that? At the meeting we already discussed that it would require a great deal of prep time and they were willing to pay me for that as well...
this is at a different company than where I am working - I can take this job because it will be held on Sundays...

I would include the "prep" time in figuring what to charge for the sessions. I wouldn't pitch it to them as "45 hours of time" though. I'd say $x rate per hour for 30 hours, and this rate takes into consideration the considerable amount of preparation time I will need for each session.

So dont charge for the prep time, but charge more for the training time?
ETA - they did present that to me as an option...

I agree with Kara. I think she's saying to just present it to them as $X for 30 hours, and mentioning that this rate takes into consideration the prep time. So you technically won't be charging for 15 hours of prep time, but the price per hour will be increased so that your prep time is covered too. Does that make sense?
So, just to use easy numbers...
instead of $10/hour x 45 hours = $450
You'd present it as, $15/hour x 30 hours (also = $450).
