Joint bank account
If my FH and I open a joint checking account together, will it hurt my credit?
His credit is horrible and my credit is excellent. Although he is repairing his credit, I'M afraid by tying our two names together for an account it will hurt my credit. Does anybody know?

Re: Joint bank account
As far as I know, a checking account has no bearing on your credit as it's straight cash unless you over drew or used your overdraft account often.
a joint credit card i would imagine would effect your credit, but a checking account... i don't think so.

Re: Joint bank account
nope. i had not so perfect credit when DH and I opend our bank account together years ago, and it did nothing. as long as you don't sign up for atm cards with a line of credit they won't even know his credit is bad.

This doesn't make a difference. Even if you sign up for checking plus lines of credit, his credit will not "hurt" your credit.
That's not the way the system works.

your right it won't "hurt" her credit, I was simply mentioning the fact that they wouldn't even know he had bad credit unless that step was taken. I did say opening the account wouldn't hurt her credit in my first line though

Re: Joint bank account
Well, if he has judgements against him, they can freeze your joint bank account to collect for his debt. If he has no judgements and owes no one, it's just bad old debt that has been paid, then I wouldn't be worried.
