Jury duty question (Nassau County)
Last year I was called to serve and telephoned in only to be excused (or should I say "not told to show up". The recording said that I had served just by calling in. I got another summons for this year. I assumed I would not be asked to serve again this soon. Can I get out of this? If so, anyone know how? TIA

Yes- if you called in each day and weren't called then you should be good for a few years (not sure the exact number of years) Is there a number you can call on the summons? You should be able to get out of it....

Re: Jury duty question (Nassau County)
I believe unless your juror number is called down to the Court House. The Gov does not consider it as time served. So you are eligible for telephone aleart again. If you do get called to the court house and are not picked then you are exempt for 5 years.
I am on telephone alert this week with Suff I got one more day left to call in.

See when I called in- at the end of the 5 days they said that it was considered that I had "served" and I was now free for 6 years. (This was in Suffolk Co though- not sure if it's different)

It's possible your name could be on the list more than once and you're receiving multiple summonses that you should not be receiving. I would just call them up ahead of time, explain what happened, and they will let you know what to do.

Duh I am an azz. They have me in the system twice. This summons was under my maiden name. I called them up. They told me to write a number on "Part A" and send it with with "DUP" written on it as well. Man am I losing it.

That happens more frequently than you think. They get names from different places and if the name is spelled differently or doesn't have a middle initial or something (or has a maiden name instead) the system doesn't recognize it as a duplicate!
Glad you got it cleared up!

Re: Jury duty question (Nassau County)
Well there is no way in hell I was going to start calling in on my first day back to work and the first day Abby starts day care. I almost started to hyperventilate. Geez. I was thinking about doing what Liz Lemon did on 30 Rock and wear my Princess Leia costume when I was called.
