Just a little background and then questions (sorry if its tooo long)

My husband and I have been trying for roughly 2 1/2 years but not seriously trying until the past 6 months, I tried the OPK's for the past 2 months, I have been lingering on this board trying to follow everyones advice (pre-seed, prenatals, etc.)
I went to my OB/GYN in August and had my blood work done which came out good, no problems, and I had thyroid surgery 1 year ago and had 1/2 of it removed so the dctr was concerned maybe that was the reason, my levels were off, but they havent been.
Here's the biggest question/fear/how necessary is it to go for the HSG test. My friend recently, went for her HSG test and said she almost jumped off the table it hurt so bad and then she was in excrutiating abdominal pain for 3 days after- the dctr said it shouldnt be that painful. Has anyone else experianced this kind of reaction? Im a big baby when it comes to pain, so she has scared me death now. I know this is the right thing to do, just suck it up and get it done with but honestly, is it necessary?
Its been 2 1/2 years, so thats given us approx. 30 "missed opportunities", so there must be something not normal right?
Sorry for the rambling, Im just excited that we are both in the same place and getting upset when nothing is happening, thanks for any advice and Good Luck to EVERYONE- Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Now, let's get down to business! I don't mean to scare you, but by definition, infertility is the inability to conceive after one year of unprotected intercourse if less than 35 years of age or six months if older than 35 years of age.

You have been having unprotected intercourse for 2.5 years, right? You need to see an RE (IMO, of course!)

They will know exactly what testing to do.

Has DH had an SA done? You had CD 3 bloodwork, right? Are you ovulating regularly? You'll probably need an HSG. I did a "review" of mine - I can bump that for you if you want.

Are you nervous about seeing an RE? Or are you just starting to want to be more aggressive with this?

Have you tried temping or anything?

Re: Just a little background and then questions (sorry if its tooo long)

I'm 27, so I guess that would make the RE necessary huh.....
My DH has not done the SA yet but my doctor gave a "Prescription/refferal" for him to get it done. I have been holding off on the HSG so I guess DH is waiting for those results first.
I did the CD3 blood work and everything was normal. I def want to become more aggressive with this but once my mind gets set on something it can snowball into obsession and I want to try to avoid that-as for ovulationg regularly, yes I am. I get AF on the same day every month for the past 2 years, since I stopped the birth control it took about 6 months to regulate itself.
I'm not scared about going to an RE I was just assuming since Im young or at least when we started 2.5 yrs ago I was that we wouldnt have any problems (Im a huge optimist, glass is always half full)
I haven't tried temping because honestly, my temperature is all over the place all the time, I get very hot, very quickly, I sleep with a fan on top of me in the winter with the window open, so my body temp, I dont really want to depend on, I dont think it will be accurate.
Thank you so much for the advice, keep it coming!!!!

Seriously, your DH needs to get the SA done BEFORE anything else!

That is usually the first step any ob/gyn or RE will recommend since it is the least invasive and if that's an issue... you might need other means of getting pregnant!

Make sure you get the numbers from your ob/gyn on your CD 3 blood work. I'm telling you from recent experience, that just saying it's "normal" doesn't necessarily mean it meets the same criteria that an RE would need it to before deeming it "normal."

I know how you feel about age - believe me! I am younger than you, and never would have thought we'd have any trouble getting pregnant - but we do.

Temping really has nothing to do with the external temperature of your room... I know from experience. I sweat a LOT in my sleep and always sleep with the fan on and windows open and it has never affected my temps. If anything, you can always temp vaginally which will ensure that your temps don't go all over the place.

WOW! Your experiance sounds sooooo much better then my friends, she literally gave me ALL the details and said the baloon part was the longest two minutes of her life and she screamed, in the office, she literally screamed! She is also very tiny though, 4'11" and 100lbs, if that so I was hoping since Im 5'4" and not even close to 100 lbs, maybe I would have an easier experiance. Thank you so much for explaining your story, it makes me feel 100% better about making this appointment now!!!!!

definitely have DH do the SA before you have anything that invasive done. My RE suggested taking 4 ibuprofen before the HSG to help relax the 'muscles' down there....but i didn't have it done...so i can't tell you from experience.

DH doing the SA is the least invasive thing in the world - so make sure he does that!!!!
