Just booked Costa Rica! Any advice?
DH and I just booked our airfare & rental car for 8 nights/9 days in Costa Rica in December!!!!!!!
We are still mapping out our itinerary for when we are there. Does anyone have any "must sees" for when we are there?
So far we are thinking: - Arenal (volcano and hot springs) - Jaco (beach town where we can do the zipline through the rainforest) - Tamarindo (not sure if we will be able to go here because I think it is off the beaten path)
We haven't been away more than 2 days together since our honeymoon 2 years ago!
Let the diet begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arenal is a must - so cool!
My favorite memory of Costa Rica is whitewater rafting. We were on Rio Pacuare (class III and IV rapids) - not dangerous rapids but still really fun. You can book a day trip through whichever raft company your hotel recommends.

You have FM! But to add-
Don't get too cozy with the cute litle stray dogs- they have fleas. LOL- I learned the hard way! Oh, and don't wade through the river mouths (where they meet the water). The Beetle Bar in Jaco is a hooker bar. Hysterical. And mmmm Imperial....

Thanks!!! Your pics are AMAZING!
Was Buena Vista Villa's and Casa's in Manuel Antonio or outside of it?
DH is not sure if he wants to go to Manuel Antonio. He said he heard it is very tourist-trapy now... He has been to CR before but it was years ago and he heard a lot has changed!
We like to experience the local flava on vacation and avoid the touristy parts

Thanks! DH and I love looking at the pictures still!
Our hotel was in MA, the main road up the hill (and it's quite steep in MA), is lined with tons of hotels. It's definately one of the more toursity areas of Costa Rica, but it's freakin' gorgeous! Originally, our plan was to stay a day or two in Arenal, then make our way to MA for the remainder of the week, but in the end, we decided to stay put in one place. Costa Rica is not the easiest to get around from place to place unless you fly. And I do not fly on small planes. Jaco is not far from MA though. But you definately can't beat the wildlife in MA. We also didn't feel like the flavor of the country was lost in a touristy area. We most certainly felt like we were in Costa Rica and among the locals (if that made any sense)
If you are interested in the wildlife at all, I strongly recommend going to Carara National Park... just north of Jaco. It's not very written about, but we did it with a tour guide and you are definately hiking through thick jungle. It's mostly known for the bird watching and the endangered Scarlett Macaws.
Feel free to FM me with any questions.

there is a main town on the Carribean side- looks amazing. I can't recall the name. I agree about the small planes though!
