A poster had posted about that she found out that its just not bottles, and that its also in the gerber food containers and motts applesauce. then it triggered alot of questions about bottles. I would love to toss out all the baby food, but its alot and i cant afford too.

Re: Just curious - whya ll the posts about BPA all of a sudden?
I am so confused with all of this. Bryan is on regular milk now, but, does that mean I have to go through all his sippy cups and a bottle or 2 he still drinks from? Sometimes he still eats veggies & fruit from the plastic containers, yogurt too. Sometimes I heat the veggies, but, I can just transfer them into a regular dish, no biggie.
I want to say Im not concerned, but, this has been on my mind all night.

The news. I spoke to my dr yesterday and he felt all is fine, as long as you never have put the bottles in the microwave. We of course have in a rush (not often) so I tossed them all and bought 2 glass 7 oz and then remembered I had 4 plastic 4 oz that never went in micro and am using that. I plan to pick up 2 more 7 oz today.

Re: Just curious - whya ll the posts about BPA all of a sudden?
You know, one article I read included quotes from a doctor. He said it's best to minimize contact with BPAs, so avoid it when possible. He noted it's very hard to avoid them all together--they are in so many things.
DS has BPA free bottles and pacifiers, but probably his formula can is lined with BPA. But what can I do about that? This is his food source right now, so I figure I'm doing my best to avoid too much exposure, and that's enough.
I do boil water for his bottles, but I put that in a glass pitcher and let it cool before they're mixed.

I couldn't believe there was a 7 on the bottom on those gerber foods. But i looked on my Motts applesauce and it's could look like a 7 but it's def a 1.
The gov't says their safe, i'm not about to throw out all my plastic stuff, but I have checked numbers and my dd uses doc browns bottles still. I only run them through the dishwasher and don't warm liquid in them. I've never heated babyfood in plastic containers.
ETA: It always seems to me when it's slow news the media bring back this BPA thing over and over and over again.

Re: Just curious - whya ll the posts about BPA all of a sudden?
Recent articles on new studies backing up the danger.
In the article I posted, in shows 95% of adults have it in their system when urine is tested, and explains what it can cause.
So thinking " oh I dont heat it etc" is not working, b/c 95% still have it in thier systems!
So add an immature immune system of a child and imagine what COULD happen.
I just dont get how anyone can take that risk when they can control it.

Do you eliminate ALL plastics from your household? Is everything in your house in glass?
It's impossible nowadays to totally control it unless manufacturers all start going back to glass like it used to be when we were growing up and i'm not just talking baby stuff.
Alot of what we used to ingest when we were little was in glass, manu's turned to plastic cause it's cheaper and seemed more appealing to consumers due to breakage.
My parents had a milkman deliver milk til i was like 13 years old-glass bottles. Hell mayo and mustard used to come in glass jars, remember that?
Things are different nowadays and it's scary, but how you can you say that anyone who eats of gives their child a plastic bottle or sippy cup is intentionally harming them or ignoring the studies?
These studies are just the tip of the iceberg, hopefully when our kids have kids the data and long term studies that are starting now will have CONCRETE evidence to back up the research now.
And the plastic that pose the most danger right now are 3, 6 & 7.
I know we always find ourselves in this debate, but that statement irked me.

Honestly...for me Im more lax on it and it may be hypocritical, I admit it.
For Noah, I am safe on an obessive level IMO b/c of all the studies.
I will protect him at any cost.
Will he occasionally have contact with it? Of course....He cannot live in a bubble, but I control what I can.
My statement above sounded harsh and I almost want to take it back, b/c your right, we all do what we can.
I never ate organic, I used plastic of all kinds, I used plastic water bottles....when Noah was born, I started reading up on it all...and I read and read and the scientific proof of disease, illness, harmful effects stagger me....I guess I feel like I should push people to do the same reading and do the same....I wish I could reverse any damage I have already done, to myself and him...
I guess I just wish we all could take better steps as much as we can to reduce risks for our children.
We cannot count on people like the government to help us. Cmon, they spend 1% of their time on issues like this and thats fact.
Im sorry if it offended, it wasnt my intent.
I will admit to being hypersensitive on the subject.

i don't think we can control it. not fully, anyway. we can take steps to minimize our kids' exposure to harmful things but we can't cut out EVERYTHING that could potentially have BPA.
today it's BPA... next year it will be something else that we had no clue about.
i just think that one could go insane trying to control everything that their child gets exposed to. at a certain point (and this point is different for everyone, i guess) i feel like i need to let go, do the best i can, and put the rest in God's hands.
jmo...

Re: Just curious - whya ll the posts about BPA all of a sudden?
And just a note on it bieng pulled. It NEVER will be, unless there is a specific study showing hardcore damage. And that wont happen.
Think about the plastic industry and how HUGE they are. Look at our economy now. Can you imagine if they got hit hard and financially hard by having to admit or pull this stuff?
Do you think the Govrn't WILL EVER let that happen? Regardless of the facts they have.

Donna i'm with you on everything you stated above, i've read everything you've read. It's scary when you think about how much now comes out that could pose a danger to our kids. The research wasn't there when we were younger and now these things are coming out.
So there's two end to the debate-do we believe these studies that are coming out or do we believe what the gov't says. There's been lots of studies and various things that have come out over the years that were disproved and when they were disproved never made it back into the media-ex-cell phones cause brain tumors-that was disproved but when it was disproved did that make the news? NOPE! and remember the egg studies-good for you, bad for you, good for you, bad for you, now it's the perfect food.
I haven't changed bottles, I dont' eat organic=honestly cause i can't afford it.
I sit here everyday and read about these stories about plastics and starting at 4months old my oldest dd had her formula warmed up in an advent bottle in the microwave, i fed her gerber babyfood in plastic containers along with beechnut and i'm scared to death now of the poison i could have put into her system, and my youngest uses doc browns, i don't warm them but they go into the dishwasher and i'm scared i've done something to her. I dont' want my girls reaching puberty at 9 years old. But what i can do? If i worry about every little thing i'd be nutso.
I'm not exactly sure what to make of these anymore, and honestly i was dead set against doing anything about it when these studies first came out until the gov't recalled them, but now, i'm more concerned and yes i check that number everytime now. I just wish i could get my oldest off warmed milk.
We all just want to do what's best for our little ones, it's just irks me that sometimes i feel i can't cause of everything around them can harm them. KWIM?
