Just curious
For those of you who did IVF how many eggs did you have retrieved and how many fertilized and made it to freeze? I'm so scared that I only have 6 embryos to work with I hope their strong ones! Also if IVF worked for you was it a day 3 or 5 transfer?

I think the reason why I'm making myself nuts is because I always read people that retrieved In the teens or 20's and had like 14 fertilize. My nurse said that retrieval of 8 is the average but I feel like I'm always reading more than that.

They retrieved 10, 9 were mature, 8 fertilized with ICSI, 1 was transferred (3-day transfer), and 6 made it to freeze. 1 is all it took -- I got my BFP and am currently 13 weeks.

Retrieved 17 At my 5-day transfer they told me 4 made it, 1 back, 3 in freeze, but a few were still being watched.
I ended up with 7 total, 1 transferred, 6 frozen. Then at my FET they put back 2 and one took, leaving 4 frozen.
Sorry I know you don't want to hear the teen numbers, but what to take away here is even if they tell you one number at the transfer, sometimes others can still pull through.

I had similar. 17 or 18 collected. 5 days 2 were transferred. 1 excellent one. Had 1 baby. Only 2 made it to freeze.
I have friends who only had 1 at day 3 & have a child from that 1.

First IVF, 9 were retrieved, all 9 were mature and fertilized, 1/2 ICSI. I was originally scheduled for a 3 day transfer but changed to a 5 day. They transferred 1 and there were 3 left to freeze. All it took was the 1 so try not to worry too much about it, currently 7 weeks pregnant.

Re: Just curious
I'll put it to you this way. I had 6 retrieved. 5 fertilized. Only three alive on day 2. Did a day 2 transfer which I had never even heard of. Thiught it was hopeless.
I now have 2.5 year old triplet boys. It's quality, not quantity!!!
I will say I had none to freeze though many would argue I didn't need any :)
Eta - my understanding is that a lot of women who produce a ton if eggs have pcos which makes them by nature very good responders to ovarian hyper stimulation . Pcos is a huge reason people flock to fertility treatments so maybe that's why it seems like so mNy women produce so many. If that's not your issue, as it wasn't mine, then you just can't expect to produce that many!

Re: Just curious
Thank you ladies so much for your responses! I see that everyone is so different and in reality I have to just be grateful for what I do have and I am! I know that I did all I could and now it's all in Gods hands and what will be will be.
Hopefulmama- thanks so much for your post it has really really put me at ease very much! I didn't know that pcos patients produced so many more follicles. I don't have pcos so this does make sense. I called my office and they said that my 6 embies are doing great so I am very content. Transfer is on for tomorrow, I'm praying for the best! Thanks again!

Re: Just curious
I actually can't remember just goes to show this all becomes a blur.
I did two ER. They retrieved more on the second one, but more fertilized on the first. It was close to 20 each time. I was upset the second time bc less fertilized BUT the quality was way, way better. I have my dd from that cycle. Neither cycle I had anything to freeze.
It's way more about quality, than quantity. I hope your 6 are great quality. Better to have that than 15 so so ones.

Re: Just curious
I had 7 retrieved, only 3 fertilized with ICSI. We transferred 2, the 3rd wasn't good enough to freeze. One of the two we transferred is now my healthy two year old DS. I was heartbroken when we only got 7 and only 3 fertilized but it's true when people say you only need one!
ETA- we did a 3 day transfer
