Just curious: people's reactions to whether or not you're finding out the sex
Only our families and a few random people know that I'm pregnant (BIL was excited and told a bunch of his friends while we were visiting him in CA). Virtually everyone has asked whether we're finding out the sex. We've decided to not find out. So far, everyone has had a very positive reaction to that. I'm sure I'll get negative comments eventually, but it's nice that people support our decision.
Out of curiousity, what have people's reactions been to your decision about finding out the sex?

People questioned why we wanted to find out, but it didn't bother me.

Hi Brooke
When I was pg and told people we weren't finding out, everyone reacted with "oh good, so much better that way". You know what, if we said we were finding out, I'm sure people would have said, "oh, so much better/easier, whatever that way" I think, for the most part, people just BS you

Only a few people know so far that we are PG - my sister was disapointed that we aren't finding out the sex, just because she wants to shop for baby clothes
I haven't had any bad reactions, mostly people have been saying that they wouldn't be able to wait

My family was happy that I wasn't finding out. No one has never found out what they were having in our family, it is always a surprise at the end.
Friends have questioned why we aren't finding out, we tell them "Because we aren't."
Every technician that has done a sonogram has asked whether we are finding out...when we say no, each person has said, "Good for you guys, that is the way to do it!"

I'm getting mixed reviews...but that's because DH and I haven't decided yet. I want to find out, he doesn't. So when I bring it up everyone agrees with me. When he brings it up, they agree with him. LOL.

This post makes me sad. I really don't want to find out what meatball is but DH is adamant about it and I can't seem to convince him to see it my way. We had decided a long time ago when we had a baby that we were going to wait to find out but the second (literally) that I told him I was pregnant he changed his mind.
Good for you for waiting! I can't imagine why anyone would need to comment one way or another but they always do!

I'm in the exact opposite situation (I want to know, he doesn't) so totally know how you feel. It's really tough when you can't agree. I'm not looking forward to my level II at all because of it because I know that we are going to continue to argue about it until the appointment and then one of us will be upset after.
Maybe we could trade husbands just for this part?

Re: Just curious: people's reactions to whether or not you're finding out the sex
When I was pregnant we didn't find out the sex of the baby and most people were so excited to hear that we wanted it to be a surprise. And for the few that questioned us as to why we didn't want to find out - we just told them there are very few real surprises left in life - and none bigger than this. Giving birth was so very exciting and hearing the words "IT'S A BOY" can never be topped!

Re: Just curious: people's reactions to whether or not you're finding out the sex
We found out. We always knew we wanted to find out and frankly anticipated everyones opinions.
To answer the "Why don't you want to be surprised?" response:
"Well gee after 9 months of trying to learn that I'd need surgery and IUI's to get PG and then getting PG once, having a chemical, getting PG again and having another m/c to finally get where we are today, we thought we already had enough unexpected surprises. I assure you that neither my husband nor myself feel remotely gypped from the experience of seeing our child for the first time."
I have been thrown with opinions on everything. One day, I'll let you in on a doozie. Perhaps the "Unsolicited Advice" thread needs to come back.

Us too, like we were committing a cardinal sin by finding out I just say that I'm too impatient to wait 9 months to find out!! Whatever you decide, people will have comments!

I get the usual " Oh I want it to be a surprise, there are so true surprises in life anymore". That is their opinion not mine. Knowing my baby's gender makes me more excited to plan and anticipate what and who my baby will look like.

Re: Just curious: people's reactions to whether or not you're finding out the sex
Not finding out has its challenges.
Some people are probably reacting 'cus they can't believe how anyone can bear the suspense! I know I can't!
My coworker is also pregant with her first and decided not to find out.
It was a dilemma 'cus she didn't know what to paint her nursery (her choices were limited to gender neutral colors like ivory, yellow or green) and she had to buy both girl and boy clothes.
Now she's debating on finding out 'cus she wants to wash the baby clothes before it's worn!
