Just curious, renovating a bathroom in a 1 bedroom house
Next year, if things go right, we'll probably gut and redo our relatively small bathroom. The problem is we're in a 1 bath house.
My question is, realistically, if we hired professionals, how long would a gut and redo take? Bringing everything down to the studs, redo the shower plumbing, tile the tub (keeping the same tub), new toliet, new sheetrock, new vanity/sink, new tile floors, ceiling, walls & door. I'm just curious since redoing our bathroom would be a MAJOR adjustment for us since its our only bath.
Thanks!
its not to big of a bathroom. About 6x9 (guess)

Umm, we hired a fantastic person to do our bathroom! He was in and out in a couple of days! They were clean, fast, efficient, and worked like horses. Also, were very reasonable! We are having them build an awning and finish our basement soon!
FM me if you are interested in calling them in for an estimate. Where are you located?

Re: Just curious, renovating a bathroom in a 1 bedroom house
We had our only bathroom done recently and it took 3 weeks for the whole thing to be gutted and redone. There were a whole lot of problems behind the old bathroom, and with a small room, its hard to get two men to work in there.
Good luck!

can I ask, did you stay somewhere? See, we'd be able to spend a week at my parents house if need be, but did you still have somebody at your place while the work was getting done?

My aunt is having her bathroom done, it is a 1 bathroom house. The people told her it would take around a week to do, and the workers are going to install and uninstall the toilet every morning and night for them.
I have no idea what they are doing about showers though.

Re: Just curious, renovating a bathroom in a 1 bedroom house
We went through this last year! And it took longer than expected overall because of my own indecisiveness, however, we were only 1 week without showers at the house.
Our friend is a contractor and he did the work - he just put the toilet back on every night (except one when they had to mud the floors - we stayed at my in-laws that night) and we brushed teeth/washed our faces in the kitchen sink temporarily. My DH and I would just go to our parents' houses before bed to use their showers -- but we are lucky that they live about 3 and 6 miles away, respectively, so this wasn't a big deal.
It wasn't the best week but since the bathroom was "usable" again after that week it was manageable.

Re: Just curious, renovating a bathroom in a 1 bedroom house
We did the same thing about 2 yrs ago - the guy said it'd only take 2 days, but it took him a lot longer since he worked alone and not through a company - maybe 6 days in total. We replaced all the plumbing, sheetrock, tile, etc. We had to stay at my mom's house for the week which was a major PITA. Still worth it in the end though!

Re: Just curious, renovating a bathroom in a 1 bedroom house
We got 3 quotes and all the guys told us 5-7 days.
When we redid the bath in my parents house which only had 1 bath too. My dad left the toilet in the whole time, we used hte kitchen sink and we just showered at my uncles who is just a few houses away. It was not convenient but it worked until it was done.

For our 2nd bathroom 5x8, demo started on Friday. Finished the following Thursday. Gutted, reinsulated, new window, new door and a new suffet on the ceiling with celing fan. And change and move outlets. Also included modification with radiator.

You could also get a porta-potty for a couple of days. During my project, we had one in the yard for the construction workers.
Not ideal, but much cheaper than staying at a hotel for a week!

Alure has a promotion where they do them in 3 days. My neighbor did it.

Re: Just curious, renovating a bathroom in a 1 bedroom house
When we lived in our condo, our upstairs neighbor used the showers/toilet in the clubhouse--do you have a clubhouse you can use?
Our smaller bathroom could have been done in 2 days if we paid an entire team. We paid one man less $$$ to do it himself, so it took longer (about 2 weeks per bathroom for large full bathrooms).
It also depends on what you are doing--they make those shower/bath stalls that are entirely plastic, and those are so quick to install. Getting the whole thing tiled (as we did) takes the longest.

Nope! We stayed in the house, we used a bucket to flush the toilet and we showered at friends houses. It wasn't great, but its over now!!
