Heart and Soul Animal Rescue.
They don't have a shelter but they foster the cats and put them on display at various Petcos.
That is how I found them...

Maddie was rescued from the Hempstead Town Shelter by Almost Home after she was purchased at a pet store (all that in one week!).

Two of our past dogs were from NSAL and Little Shelter, another was a gift to DH from his ex (well, not at the time! lol) from Yuppy Puppy

Both of my dogs came from Little Shelter.

My cat came from a rescue in Binghamton, NY.

My cat was from a litter that a feral cat had in my moms backyard. He was one of 5 kittens - all but 1 were adopted.

My mom has managed to have the mother & the last cat neutred. They now just hang out around my moms yard.

They won't let anyone near them BUT my mom and even than its just a quick pat on the head...but they seem happy.

Plus no unwanted new kittens to worry about

Lucky is from the Pet Company and Porter is was rescued from Hempstead animal Shelter by Little Shelter before we got him

pokey- my persian - his orginal owner no longer wanted him (her loss- he is awesome)

so I took him- he is my first pet

then I wanted to get him a friend

a girl on LIW had a stray cat that had kittens in her garage

and I took Maggie home

I wouldn't buy a pet- too many need homes- and then when they do bad things you can remind them how lucky they are to live with you

Sarge is a rescue from an English Bulldog Rescue group!

He was sick, 15 pounds underweight and so sad... now he is a heart throb!

I got O'Malley from SPCA in Florida (he was a hurricane katrina rescue from Alabama)

Jameson is from the town shelter in Huntington called League of Animal Protection (right down the block from little shelter)

And after looking for over a year for a dachshund through shelters & petfinder and other rescue groups, I decided to do some research & buy him from a breeder upstate. Even though she was a responsible breeder, i'd never buy a dog again. there's too many dogs out there that need homes.

i received my doxie as a gift from my in-laws.

the prior owners bought him at shake a paw and couldn't handle the dog so my in-laws bought the dog. i convinced my parents that a dog would be okay - since i was renting from them at the time. 6 months later my in-laws give him to me as a "wedding present".

Espresso was a rescue at a pet store in Copaigue and Misty came to us through the NY Weimaraner Rescue.

i picked someone gave it to me but our dog Jack was adopted from North Shore Animal League and then our friend gave him to us when she couldn't have him in her small apartment.

Our cat Phoebe is from a cat shelter. She was found in a park. She is an extremely friendly cat, so I think she must have been someone's cat, but that person didn't microchip her (It is a law here).

Our other cat, Holden, is from a foster care rescue (I think that is what they are called). There was a cat that lived in someone's backyard that kept on having kittens. They took the kittens and put them into foster care. Holden is one of those kittens. The foster care "mother" was very nice in that she held onto Holden for four weeks until he had his second round of shots at 12 weeks. Phoebe is a cat flu carrier and Holden needed to have that second round of immunizations so that he wouldn't get cat flu. I do think he may have been taken away from his mother a bit early b/c he does strange things when he does happy feet.

I got my 2 best friends from NSAL ....... 2 ADORABLE kittens, adopted each at different times.

I got my Lexi from NSAL. My husband (bf) at the time were in the area and just went to "look"....and the rest was history!

1 cat from a shelter. The other cat I adopted from an LIFer a few months ago because family members were allergic. The cat loves DH.

she was a poor feral kitty for about 5 years when i took her in from my aunt's backyard. through lots of love and training, she's now a lovable, friendly cat (at least to me!)

Some of our pets are from the Animal Hospital where my DH works.

Some of our pets are from the Animal Hospital where my DH did his internship when he was in school.

All of them were rescued.

I got my first cat through the local shelter, but directly from the owner. They didn't have room for him and I was looking for an adult cat, so I was given the owners contact information.

We got our second kitty from Wantagh shelter. That place broke my heart.
