just curius what everyone thinks of this situation(Roseola related)

I know this girl (who lives in NJ) whose DC has Roseola, she started having fevers and then the day before yesterday she broke out. The day the ped diagnosed the baby mom took her to the mall to BRU and TRU buy some things(she called me from the mall to let me know what the baby had), then they went to the park. This morning she called me saying that she 's going to be in Manhattan with the baby(she is taking a bus) and if I'd like to get together and bring DD. I felt bad but I told her I am worried about Roseola and I don't want DD exposed to it. She said she understands and not to worry about it , but she also said the dr told her it's ok to take the baby out in public.

I don't understand, I thought Roseola is a viral illness and it spreads very easily.
This girl is a really good person and a very good mom , but I feel like she is being selfish and putting other people's kids in danger of getting this illness. I know it's not life threatening , but if a child with weak immune system gets it they can develop many complications and possibly die from it.
What do you think of this situation? Do you think I am overreacting? Should I have said anything else to her or should I just let her do whatever she wants an leave it at that?

from babycenter.com:

"Is roseola contagious?

Yes, especially among young children. Roseola is spread by saliva or respiratory droplets — when an infected person sneezes or coughs, for example — or by fecal-oral contact. Because a child is contagious before he has symptoms, there's often no way to avoid exposure.

Make sure that all family members — especially those taking care of your toddler — wash their hands frequently. (This is a good idea even in the fever stage because you don't know that you're dealing with roseola until you see the classic rash.)

To play it safe, keep your child home from daycare and away from others while he has a fever. It's probably wise to keep him home until the rash is gone, although he'll be less contagious once he has the rash than he was when he had the fever.

The good news: Once your child has had roseola, he'll probably have lifelong immunity to it."

so if this is true, then i would definitely keep my child home until the rash was completely gone. even if the child is "less" contagious with the rash, like you said, children and others with compromised immune systems could be seriously affected.

DS had roseola and really it wasnt that big of a deal. Its not a terrible illness, hes had worse colds. I honestly dont see anything wrong with it and after the fever breaks and they just have the rash, they are no longer contagious. Plus once your DC gets it, they can never get it again. The rash itself didnt bother my DS at all.

Frankly, he was fine evn though he had it. Id be more worried about being around kids with colds and I find those make for way more miserable kids and they linger.

I dont think its a big deal.. JMO

That's what I read too . And I asked a friend of mine whose mom is a nurse and works for the ped's office ,she said Roseola is still contagious even after the fever breaks and they just have a rash, especially frist 2-3 days, after 3 days it's nothing to worry about. Also my sister said her godson(overseas) had it when he was 6 mos old and the ped told them the same thing. So I don't know....
It's not a big deal, I guess I just felt bad for saying no to getting together and kinda confused about her being out and about with the baby who is sick and has something potentially very contagious.
