I'm sorry. It's always something with a house. The washing machine was broken when we got in our house and we had to buy a new one.

Re: Just did the first load of laundry in the new house and......
well if u want a good dryer go to the sears scratch and dent store on montauk hwy in babylon. There might be a scratch or dent for like 1/2 the price and they work fine. I mena as long as u arent displaying your washer and dryer a scratch or dent is no biggie

Re: Just did the first load of laundry in the new house and......
I swear that people buy a house - get new appliances and when they are ready to break - sell the house We had to replace the washer, dryer and dishwasher within the first year of ownership...

Re: Just did the first load of laundry in the new house and......
Oh, that sucks! Do you have a clause in your contract covering the appliances? Ours had something stating that if they broke down within a certain amount of time following the closing (I think it was 60 or 90 days), the owners would give us money towards repairs or replacement. It wouldn't cover everything, but it's something. If you aren't sure, check with your attorney. I'm not so sure this is standard though.
I don't think these are terribly expensive compared to some other appliances, but it's still annoying. Good luck!

That does stink!
We've been in our house since mid-March and we had to repair the dishwasher & replace the stove - over a grand...THANKFULLY our house came with a one year appliance warranty from AHS, so it only costs us the $95 ded. I recommend EVERYONE getting this included in their contract!

Re: Just did the first load of laundry in the new house and...... **Update**
Ours worked...but the squeaking washing machine was too much to deal with and forget the dryer - you had to put a load through twice to dry it! It was one of those washer/dryer combos from Sears. We eventually bought a new washer & dryer a few months later. And then the dishwasher...the baskets were rusting and to replace them costs almost as much as a new dishwasher! So we got a new one of those too!
Owning a home is $$$!!

Totally not a dumb question. AHS - American Home Shield. http://www.ahswarranty.com/ The realtor put this in towards the final negotiation...the seller wouldn't budge & neither were we. This little policy that the realtor threw in has saved us ....and believe it or not...I think I'll be calling them again soon.

Re: Just did the first load of laundry in the new house and...... **Update** !Another update at bottom!
Lesson of the day!
Just because there's a plug in the back of your dryer don't assume that it's an electric dryer.
Always check for a gas line or you *might* end up buying the wrong thing, having it delivered and finding out the hard way.
Back to P.C. Richards we go to buy a GAS dryer.

I know this is annoying for you but on the bright side a gas dryer will save you a whole bunch of money in the long run.

Dumb question... did you turn on all of the appliances during the walk through?
Sorry you have to get a new dryer!

Yeah - we turned them all on - the dryer pumps out warm air, but it's not hot enough to dry clothing.
The other night when we tried it out, it was with a load of 4 towels and after 2 and a half hours on the "high" cycle, they were still soaked. I guess we were duped with the dryer, because we did feel the hot air coming out when we did our walk-through.
