Just for fun... How did you name your DC?
Just out of curiosity...
How did you come up with your children's names? Are your children named after family members, names you heard somewhere and loved, after someone famous you love... ?
DS's first name is after my FIL, and his middle name is after my grandfather.
I am due with a girl in September and we are totally lost with what to name her. None of the names we are tossing around seem "right." Hoping one day, it will just click.

Literally sat around and rattled names off of lists of girl's names until DH surprisingly liked Ava. I loved the name but never in a million years thought he'd go for it.
We actually liked Fiona first, but my family all made fun of the name and said it just made them think of Shrek. I still like Fiona though!

Re: Just for fun... How did you name your DC?
We had a list of "requirements" for DC.
Couldn't be "trendy" (Both DC's names are from the Old Testament, so they definitely aren't trendy... ) Easy to pronounce when you saw it in print, and easy to spell if you heard it. Difficult to make annoying nicknames. Initials didn't spell any weird words. Names weren't used by any close relatives or known ancestors.
Needless to say, it wasn't easy...

Re: Just for fun... How did you name your DC?
For DD my DH came up with the name and I was against it for a while.
The name I wanted I couldn't use. I wanted Allie but his moms name is Alison and I refuse to allow her to think we named a child after her. Finally I gave in to his name though at one point we we using Michala but I ended up nixing it cause someone else we knew had name their child that and we didn't want it.
Her middle name I ready from a magazine and I like it.
For my DS that name we came up from a suggestion but again we weren't in agreement and didn't make a decision till I was in labor in the hospital.
I wanted Jax but DH somehow convince me everyone would associated with the show Sons of Anarchy which is where I fell in love with the name.
Middle name of my DS is after my brother who passed away.
If my secound DC was girl I would have went with Rori which I got from a show and loved the name
I did have some requirements. I refused to name my kid one name and then call them by a nickname (example I like Jax and that would have been his name vs naming him Jaxson and calling him Jax sam with Allie) could not be named after anyone parent (wasn't having more than 2 kids and I wasn't going to offend any grandparent by my kid not being named after them plus none of their names I loved enough to name my kid it or give them the middle name) the first and middle name couldn't be made into a nickname (AJ, TJ, JP etc)

Re: Just for fun... How did you name your DC?
For our first, if he was a boy he'd be named after my grandfather; a girl, my grandmother. We only liked a boy name and lucky for us, he was a boy. His name was easy!
Our second, the plan was to name after DH's grandfather. We found out we were having a girl and unfortunately, we couldn't agree on any L girl names. So we just picked a name we loved as a first name. We used L for her middle name.

My DD's first and middle names are just names we both liked and agreed on. She's not named after anyone.

For my dd I read an article in a Star magazine about terri hatcher and her daughter "Emerson". I wasn't even engaged yet but knew if I ever had a daughter that would be her name. Thankfully dh loved it. Her middle name "Leigh" is the middle name if my mom.
My ds is Everett. My husband came up with it and I lived it right away. Only other boy name we thought of was Nolan. I still like Nolan but love Everett. His middle name is Bruce after my deceased father in law

Madison was the girl name I loved since I was a kid
When we found out twins we said two girls. Madison and Michaela or Madison and Morgan
When we found out one of each it was Madison and Landon. Then it was Madison and Colin. For a long time
One day I said to dh I can't believe we are naming our kid after the guy who did drugs with kelly Taylor.
That was the end of Colin lol. But it is how we got Dylan
So then they were named. Madison and Dylan lol

DD is Gianna Therese.
The first little gift DH gave me when we started dating was a pink teddy bear I named Gianna. When i got pregnant years later, he brought it up because he wanted an Italian sounding name for our LO. Therese is after St. Therese who we both feel brought us together.

I just started throwing out names and DH hated all of them.
I wanted Declan. DH came up with Gavin. I wasn't a fan but I gave in.

These are my 2 favorite boy names, but I had a girl.
I feel like I've told this story before, but I always wanted to name my DD Charlotte, long before Sex and the City. Always. Finally got pregnant in March and along comes the damn princess in May. We really didn't want a super popular name so there went that. It'll always be my favorite name though
Anyway, DH hated every girl's name I liked except one, so that was the one. It's a very classic name with a little bit of a twist. It fits her perfectly.

Just for fun... How did you name your DC?
With dd1 we wanted something Irish but not too Irish. We had a different name picked out for a while and I liked it but was never totally committed to it. One day dh randomly suggested a name further down our list with a middle name combining both our grandmothers. It sounded really sweet together and that was that.
With dd2 we were team green and had a boy name picked out but not a girl name. Actually it was our 2yo that picked the boy name (Sam) and a lot of people suggested we use it for either gender but I didn't want it for a girl. At 35 weeks during our ecs I was asking the nurses for girl name suggestions bc we still hasn't decided. Of course it was a girl and after her first hectic day when we could still only remember one name off our list we figured we should use it lol. Her middle name is the same as my mom's and my favorite author. My 2yo still called her Sam at first and took a while to stop protesting!

My 3 girls all have family names. I knew DD1's name early. I didn't know the other 2 until we were ready to bring them home.

Yes this sounds like us!! I didn't want to use a name that is already used within our family (except middle names for my older 2 were after my father & my FIL). We like classic names that everyone has heard of but not SO common that there are 5 in every kid's class. Also didn't want a name that could be mispronounced or misspelled.

Re: Just for fun... How did you name your DC?
My DD is Emerson Avery. When I was a teenager, ages ago lol, I had a TV in my room made by the manufacturer, Emerson. I thought it was a cool name and always kept it in the back of my mind. Avery I first noticed from the labels manufacturer and thought it too was a cool name. When it came time to name my DD those two names sounded great together and that was it! So basically, she's named after a bunch of consumer products.
My DS is Grayden Keller. I always loved the name Hayden actually and had my DD been a boy that would've been her name. By the time my son came along I went from Hayden to Grayden mostly because I liked the nicknames, Gray and Grady. Came across the name Keller and thought it was cool.
I like different and less popular names. When I named my DD you never really saw the name the Emerson which I loved but now it's gotten more popular. Grrrrr

I refused to name my child after a family member. We originally picked the name Riley because I love the name but I really didnt want a popular trendy name. We ended up watching a movie one day and fell in love with one of the actresses name.

I was watching a movie. Loved the name of the main character but could not imagine using it for my child's name. Suggested it to DH kind of as a joke. Soon it became the name to which all other names were compared to. It is the name we used.

Just for fun... How did you name your DC?
My sons are Andrew and Anthony. Their middle names and after our brothers /my dad. A week before they were born we still didn't have names definitively. We had Andrew and Anthony closer to the top of the list. I had an emergency c section and was flipping out getting the spinal. My doctor asked me what names we picked and I said maybe Andrew and Anthony but we weren't sure. Well he pulled out baby A and yelled here's Andrew and pulled baby b and said here's Anthony... and so my doctor decided their names! lol I have Andrew Christopher and Anthony Michael. Names on our list had to be saint names. If they were girls they would have been Fiona and Nora! Fiona was the top girls name!

Just for fun... How did you name your DC?
for our older son, we just kept tossing names out, and then one stuck with both of us. and his middle name is a family name- my dad, grandpa AND great grandpas name...
for second DS, again it was a name we both just liked. and it just happens to be my FILs middle name, AND my great-grandmoms maiden name. so it works all around his middle name is also a family name- DHs grandpas name...
it was hard bc i was an elementary school speech teacher for 8 years... so any name i had liked before ended up getting associations with it from my students! HAHA

Re: Just for fun... How did you name your DC?
My DS I didnt really have much of a choice. He was named after my ExH. He had always wanted a Jr.
For my DD, DH and I both made a list of names that we liked. Of all the names, there were only 1 or 2 that we both agreed on. I had always loved the name Emmalynn and he happened to like it too, so we settled on that. Her middle name is DH's late grandma's name. Believe it or not, a week before she was born I suddenly had a change of heart...DH constantly kept referring to her as "Emily"...it was his nickname for Emmalynn. But I started to feel like the name Emily might suit her more. So a few hours before she was born we decided to name her Emily instead of Emmalynn.

Re: Just for fun... How did you name your DC?
DS- a version of DH's name. DH wanted him named after himself and I said no. So we did a version of his name.
DD- I printed up a list of 1000 baby girl names and went through the list and liked her name. It is not a name that is too common.

Re: Just for fun... How did you name your DC?
We called my son by his initials (AJ) and it became so him that we felt like that was his true name. Right before we adopted him we realized we could change it. We discussed it alot and even asked my DS who was 4 at the time his opinion. We kept his middle name because that is the middle name all males in DHs family has and changed his first to be Ajay.
We had every intention of keeping his first name but it felt so right that he was an Ajay (AJ). My DS actually thought every year we would go to court to change his name

DH wanted something short and he basically shot down all the names I liked. He liked Kyle and Eric and I liked Eric more. He didnt care about a middle name so that was all me.
