Just got back from L&D
Oy vey, what a night I woke up yesterday feeling like a trainwreck with an AWFUL headache that just wouldn't go away with tylenol, and nauseaus as hell. At night I went for a walk with DH and our doggy and when I came back my vision started getting blurry. I didn't think anything of it, but DH made me call the Dr's paging service. When I talked to the Dr., she told me to come to the hospital so they could check me out.
I got to L&D at around 12am. They took my blood, pressure, urine, the whole nine yards and everything looked good. Hooked me up to the monitor and Baby Beer's heart was a-thumping away But then the nurse turned to me and asked if I felt anything? Um, no, why? Apparently I was having a contraction, and having them consistently every 2 minutes!!!! Obviously the Dr. was a little concerned - told me it's a little too early to deliver so we're going to try to stop it.
Hooked me up to an IV (what an awful experience - it took them 30 minutes to get the IV in and I have about 6 bruises now all over my arms ) and gave me fluids. Wasn't working - an hour later, I was still contracting every 2 minutes, though, I wasn't feeling a damn thing! So they gave me a shot of tributine (sp?). OMG, that thing really knocks you out! My heartrate went from 73 to 98 in about a minute and I started shaking uncontrollably! BUT, thankfully, the contractions stopped about a half hour later.
So, Doc thinks it's either because I was dehydrated, because of the heat, or serious "practice" contractions. I'm scared as hell because now, for all I know, I'll go into contractions again and not even know it!!!

How scary I will pray that you have no more contractions until Baby Beers fully baked in there.

Wow, what a night! Glad you're home and doing OK.
When is your actual due date? Are you past 37 weeks?

Nope! I'm due Sept. 23!! Though I've been saying for about a week now that I feel like my body is starting to get ready and I really think I'm going to go early. Dr. said that if this happens again in two weeks they aren't going to stop the contractions and have me deliver SAME thing happened to my mom with all three of her children - she never felt a contraction and never knew she was in labor - she arrived at the hospital fully dilated and effaced, no time for medication, and delivered within 30 minutes. With my brother, it was the same thing - 4 weeks before her due date she felt nauseaus so she went to the doctor - she was contracting and was fully dilated and delivered within the hour. Thankfully, last night, my cervix was TIGHTLY shut (whew!). One on hand it's great - quick, almost painless delivery. But, on the other, it scares me to hell that I might not make it to the hospital in time!!!

Re: Just got back from L&D
Wow!! I thought you were due around the same time as me but I couldn't remember. My doc told be that at about 35 weeks they don't try to stop labor anymore. That's great that your cervix is still closed though. Did they put you on any kind of bedrest? Are they going to see you more often now?

I'm so not mentally prepared to deliver at 35 weeks! No bedrest, but I'm not allowed to take long walks with DH and doggy anymore and I'm on strict orders to drink lots and lots of water, though I doubt that's what caused it because I drink about 3-4 liters a day. I have a Dr. appointment as a follow-up in one week, and if any of the symptoms come back, I have to back to L&D immediately...

Re: Just got back from L&D
Thanks everyone... hopefully baby beer will cooperate and cook a little bit longer, though my gut instinct is telling me I need to get ready (mentally) much earlier than expected

Re: Just got back from L&D
I just wanted to let you know that that EXACT thing happened to me when I was pregnant with Scotty...I was having contractions at the Dr's office...didn;t feel a thing, so they sent me to the hospital for the IV, and they stopped. Let me tell you not to worry about being in labor and not knowing it...YOU KNOW IT These contractions you were having were just little ones, so don't panic. Glad you and your peanut are feeling better!!

Re: Just got back from L&D
What a big scare! I'm so glad that you and baby are both okay!
It seems a lot of people have contractions without knowing it. I guess the ycould be braxon hicks contractions, which supposedly are painless for the most part. I just don't know what they would even feel like because I've never done this before, so how would we even know!!
