Just got back from the Doctor...DD has a viral infection ...have a question
She has a BAD rash all over her body and the Dr. said it was a viral infection...and I ask what can cause that - she said I don't know and I was stunned....is that normal ?
then I asked if she needed antibiotics and she said no.
Does anyone know anything about a viral infection with a full body rash (not bumpy at all)

Yes, it's very common, it is called a viral exanthem. Some examples are measles, chicken pox, or roseola- those are viruses that are identified that cause characteristic rashes. But there are thousands of viruses that aren't identified that also cause a self-limited rash.

My ped often tells me if its a virus they will often break out in a rash at the end - so you should be out of the woods soon. The rash looks awful but is not irritating to them at all. DS has this now after a week of not eating/fever, etc. In fact he's had 3-4 this past spring/summer.

Noah had that earlier this year, and it was at the tail end of a virus. He didn't seem uncomfortable at all, and after a few days it just went away.
Its quite normal.
