Just had a thought- RE: USPS and Christmas deliveries
I ordered from Amazon.com on the last day for guaranteed shipping by Dec. 24th.
I just checked the status and it says estimated delivery is December 24.
BUT- don't all government employees have off on Christmas Eve? And aren't USPS employees government employees?
Am I going to get my gifts? I'm freaking out now....

post office is open and delivering mail on christmas eve, just closed on christmas day.

USPS delivers on Christmas Eve--its not a national/federal holiday--its just the day before one.
UPS is only delivering 3 days, 2day and next day packages on Christmas eve. regular ground service and pickups are suspended that day.

Kara- I don't know what they ship- I chose their free super saver shipping on the last possible day-I just assumed it was ground shipping through USPS.
I thought I was going to have to add more to my list! Phew!

Hmm... you might be right about the free shipping. I thought it was UPS, but I may be wrong for the ground shipping. Either way, looks like you are all right!

DW used to work for USPS. They are gov't when it's convenient for the gov't, but private when it's convenient for the gov't. They pay taxes to the gov't, and must earn their own money to support the business, unlike other gov't agencies.
Will my local Post Office be open on Christmas Eve?
Yes, every local Post Office will be open on Christmas Eve; however many will shorten retail lobby hours to enable retail employees to spend more time with their families. 12PM (local time) will be the last collection for mail deposited in blue collection boxes to be processed on December 24th.
Regular mail delivery for December 24th will be unaffected.
Revised hours will be posted at each Post Office. To obtain the phone number of a specific Post Office, call 1-800-ASK-USPS or visit the Post Office Locator online.
Post Offices will be closed December 25. Express Mail will be delivered Christmas Day and regular mail delivery will resume December 26.
They DO deliver on Christmas day. I can just imagine trying to explain to kids "No, really, Santa really drives a white truck and wears a blue uniform!"
