Just opened DS's 529 Plan!
I cant believe that we are preparing for his college years!! I guess it will be worth it!! It's just so strange since he cant even walk lol

Go to nysaves.org or savingforcollege.com
There is a lot of information. Basically the money for college or college related costs accumulates tax free and without withdrawal penalty if you use it for college.
It is easy to sign up and I already set it up for $$ to come out of my account each month.
The contributions are tax deductible in NY with this NY 529 plan

My parents got it for Andrew for his Christening. That every month they contribute until he is 18. Even if god forbid they pass it is still set up that they will contribute.
I think this was the best gift ever!!!!!

Same with my parents, plus an additional savings account for him that they put put birthday and holiday money into

I believe that you can link your 529 to a upromise account so the money that you earn goes right into the savings plan!!

I opened DD's when she was Christened. We got some really nice monetary gifts for her so we started it with over $1000. We were so psyched!!!
