Just so people who may be doing IUI don't get scared away....
I did a few IUIs and had no cramping, no reactions, no problems whatsoever. It is normally a pain-free and very simple procedure.
I just don't want anyone to freak out if they are considering this option - it is really the least invasive form of treatment you can try.
Once you move on to IVF -- IF needed --, you have to give blood often, have ultrasounds and take numerous drugs by injection. Even so, I have to say my experience was quite positive. Sure shooting up isn't fun, but I had no extreme reactions to anything and most people don't. I went on with my life the same as always.
I also have a blood clotting disorder so throw an extra injection in there for the whole cycle and also throughout my pregnancy.
Good luck to everyone!! Taking steps in the right direction can only hlep you

Thank you for this! I feel for everyone who is having a difficult time, but I have to admit I am freaking out about possibly overstimming, the injections, the blood tests, the sonograms, the retrieval, EVERYTHING!!! I am scared to death about my first IVF consult, so thank you!!

I have to totally agree with this, I did multiple IUI's and never had any problems. Also with my IVF the injections aren't bad at all, I did 72 intramuscular progesterone shots! It really isn't that bad, I too went on with life as usual, we went out to restaurants for dinner and I just found a quiet area to do my injection. Good luck everyone, it isn't that bad!

Yes, seriously...the injections are nothing...you really don't even feel them!!
After you do it a few times, you become a pro!
I can't tell you how many times I've injected myself stopped at a traffic light

Or in the bathroom at work!!!
Even IVF with all it's possible issues is not that bad. OHSS or Hyperstimming is uncomfortable for the most part and generally not life-threatening. Only in extreme cases is it really debilitating.
Good luck to everyone and be positive - it's the strongest weapon you have in this fight!!

I agree! I was so scared of the shots and the monitoring, etc, and once I got the hang of it, the shots are pretty easy, even intramuscular shots, which I was REALLY scared of.

I also completely agree. I have done 7 iui's and they have been completely painless. I have also been on injections, which might seem overwheliming at first but you get used to it. I haven't done IVF yet, but from what I have heard it's just more committment than anything.

absolutely, IUIs were a piece of cake, I would go on my lunch hour or before work. Even IVF was nothing. And I have given myself my share of IM injections in my own butt. Now that was fun
I think the worst part was the itchiness around the IM progesterone site ... but I was probably allergic to it

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!!!
I think having a positive attitude and not worrying yourself about all the things that can go wrong (most of the time it doesn't) is the best medicine of all!!!
I actually found the whole IVF journey fun - all I thought about was why I was doing this and actually looked forward to the injections and morning sonos because then I would know that I was one day closer.
I never read any of the information of side effects of the meds and really tried hard not to read the posts with negative titles/subjects - because I believe that you can make yourself sick but that is JMOI!
to EVERYONE!!!

Great!! It seems everyone got the point of this post - and I am so glad! I just hope that you can all do what you need to to get where you want - and be successful. It can be a long hard journey but it's important as flowergirl said to keep the goal in mind and stay positive!! Try not to overanylize...

ITA - although I've only had one so far it was a breeze. Even during my first cycle on Gonal-F when I overstimmed and made 9 follies it was only uncomfortable for a few days afterwards. Believe it or not I felt worse on Clomid.

Hell, my IUI's were more enjoyable than sex at one point.

LMFAO
In all seriousness...I had 13 iui's and about 6-7 were injectable ones and I really never foudn them to be too bad.
I had some cramping b/c of scar tissue during maybe 2 of them but it was just like AF..the rest were a breeze...I always was back at work an hour later...
Even IVF girls is more mentally draining then physically.
Yes, the meds etc put a toll on you weight wise, emotionally etc, but Im the biggest wuss there is and I always say if I could handle it, anyone can.
For those afraid of injections, DONT BE. They really dont hurt and like Lisaw said, I used to just pop um in...anywhere..after the first day or two its like second nature to stick yourself...crazy as that sounds.
No worries girls!
