Just watched Super Size Me
Holy cow.
I haven't eaten McDonalds in over a year, for various reasons. I laughed when he described the "McGurgles" but it's so true, I always felt like hell after eating there but kept going back.
That documentary put the nail in the coffin for me. Never again will I eat at McDonalds. I do still eat fast food once in a blue moon but if it's burgers, we go to 5 Guys and I don't get sick from it. Usually once every 2 months or so.
I got bloodwork done this week, to test my cholesterol, glucose, thyroid etc. I've never known my cholesterol level, hopefully it's good!
How about you? Do you eat fast food often?

Re: Just watched Super Size Me
not often, but sometimes I'm in the mood for it so I have it. I don't overdo it though, DH & I split a meal-- I think it's just too much otherwise.

I haven't eaten fast food in about 2 1/2 years. I just don't find it appetizing. I'll have subway or blimpie but to me thats not hardcore fastfood- its not cooked so I don't have to worry about all the greasy-ness.

Re: Just watched Super Size Me
I guess Panera is considered fast food too, although I feel like it's on a different level than McDonalds. I eat at Panera probably once every two weeks.

Re: Just watched Super Size Me
McDonalds and Burger King maybe 2x a year. I love the fish sammich and the original chicken.
Taco Bell more like 5-6 times a year. A girl has to have her gorditas. I think it's easier to steer away from the garbage food there and go for the better choices.
Overall though it's the very last thing I want to eat because it's all junk.

Re: Just watched Super Size Me
I'm lucky that my parents were very healthy eaters and never let me have fast food as a child. I didn't even go into a McDonald's until I was 15 ! I have continued that pattern as an adult, and I never eat fast food. I'm also a vegetarian ,so there would be very little for me to eat anyhow.

I think it really depends what you order there. If you have a big salad or a veggie wrap I don't think it is traditional fast food.

For some reason I wouldn't consider Panera fast food.
In my mind when I think of fast food I think - McDonalds, Wendy's, BK, Taco Bell, KFC, etc. Thanks to Super Size me it'll be 7 years in January since I've touched the stuff. I refuse to even buy water or coffee at those places - I won't support them in any way shape or form.

Re: Just watched Super Size Me
I honestly don't remember the last time I had fast food (besides subway, and places like that). It's been that long. I would say several years ago. I can't eat that crap anymore. Ive eaten healthy for so long that if I ate fast food I feel very sick afterwards and my workouts go to crap too. It's hard to run after eating bad as it is.

Once I started reading the nutritional information on Panera's foods, I didn't consider them as healthy as before. For someone watching their weight, even the salad dressings are not great. While I think they make an effort to provide good options and sources of their food, I know I can do better.
I think it's great that a documentary like that has such an affect on you and I and so many other people out there. So cool.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong - Panera isn't "healthy", not many places are. My issue with places like McDs is more of quality & like you said - source issue.

I know what you mean. I'll usually indulge in 5 Guys or Panera or someplace like that *after* a particularly good workout or good week weight-wise. I plan on those for lunches or really early dinners to minimize the affect.

I think if McDonalds was on par with Panera at least on the food quality and minimizing trans fats and crap like that, it wouldn't be as bad. Until that happens, I'll just avoid it.
I do still love my Panera 1/2 sandwich, small soup though.

Re: Just watched Super Size Me
I don't eat at McDonalds. I've never liked their food. I LOVE 5 Guys but don't eat there often because I can not be trusted around their french fries. Wendy's once in a blue moon. I've never eaten at Burger King or Taco Bell. I like Sonic for drinks but I don't eat their food. Honestly? I eat more at Starbucks when I am traveling or out and about--I like that turkey bacon sandwich.
