K-5 teachers- what are your rules/procedures/consequences?
How about we share? I'm always trying to revamp them...but then again they're probably fine and I for some reason don't expect kids to be kids!
1. Follow directions the first time given. 2. Raise your hand and wait to be called on. 3. Play the instruments only when asked (sorry I'm a music teacher ) 4. Handle the instruments carefully. 5. Treat others with respect.
Consequences- 1. First warning (verbal) 2. Second warning - time out (they write a think sheet which I so far haven't done yet- hmmm maybe I'm just not a follow-through-er! ) 3. Conference with me and a call home.
I think my problem is, I'm not that great at following through with consequences. I don't think I've EVER had a kid write out a think sheet! I guess somewhere deep in my heart, calling out in class is not worth a call home.
And sometimes- I don't even want to go with the warning process- I just want to take a kid out of an activity, no questions asked, because they are wreaking havoc. Maybe I just need to be a stickler in the beginning and then it works for the rest of the year? Or maybe I'm just not expecting kids to be kids? I guess I'm hard on myself- thinking it's all me when they can't control themselves. So I keep thinking it's something I have to fix...and if it doesn't get fixed I feel like a failure.
Sorry didn't mean to turn this in to a 'give me advice' post. I'd really love to hear what you do! Thanks!

IMHO if you feel that calling out doesn't require a call home then it shouldn't be a consequence. I think consequences should be something you feel comfortable and willing to follow through with.
