Re: Spinoff: Rules/Consequences/Rewards

This is what I have done for probably the past 4 years and it works very well.

Rewards:

Individual:
Caught Being “Good”/Raffles-Any time you’re “caught” doing something “good”, (for example good thinking, showing good judgement, having good responsibility, etc) you will receive a fish. At the end of the day, you may turn in your fish for either a prize or raffle tickets. The raffle tickets will be put into a monthly drawing for fabulous prizes!!

Class:
Fruit Loop jar- The class can earn handfuls of fruit loops by working together as a class, playing the mystery person game and receiving class complements. Once the jar is “full’, the class earns a party of their choice.

Consquences:

Behavior Plan
Any time a class rule is broken, you are given a card that represents the rule you broke:

Respect- for your teacher, students, other’s ideas,
comments, feelings, property

Responsibility- for your schoolwork/homework, your property

Cooperation- during lessons, group work, independent work time etc.

Consequences
? If you are given one card, consider it a warning.
? If you are given 2 cards, you will receive a 5 minute time out and behavior log (copy of behavior log sheet will be sent home and must be signed and returned)
? If you are given 3 cards of any kind in one day, you will get a phone call home and lose recess the next day.

Re: Spinoff: Rules/Consequences/Rewards

I use the Lee Cantor system...I have a chart with it in my room. I will post it when I find it.

No matter what system you use....just be consistent and stick with it. This is something that I struggle with

my district uses Cantor as well - so you have classroom rules, and then increasingly bad consequences or good rewards for following them.

I agree and find it hard to stick with a plan too.

I have found that the fewer rules, the better. I have five:
- Remain seated unless you ask to get up.
-Follow directions the first time they are given.
-Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
-No food, candy or soda.
-Listen, don't talk when a classmate, teacher, or guest is speaking.

They're worded differently on my poster, but this is the gist.

Re: Spinoff: Rules/Consequences/Rewards

Rewards: I use tickets. If you do something "above and beyond", you get a ticket. You can also earn a ticket for doing the academic "extra" for the week. Twenty tickets, you get a HW pass and something out of the treasure bag. As a class, we have a chart we use and I fill it in if there is class-wide good behavior. As it gets filled, there are things like 2o min. recess, extra computer time, lounge day etc.

Consequences: We create rules together the first week. First infraction, you get a warning. Second, you miss recess. Third, a call home.
I used to use the home behavior log too..it worked nicely.

This is for grade four.
