Kate Gosselin Admits to Struggling with Her Marriage

She's embroiled in a public scandal linking her husband, Jon Gosselin, to another woman, and Kate Gosselin tells PEOPLE in its latest cover story that she and her spouse have been privately struggling for months.

"I don't know that we're in the same place anymore, that we want the same thing," she says quietly. "I've been struggling with the question of 'Who is this person?' for a while. I remember where I was the first time I heard her name. It's one of those things where you can try to make it go away, but there's blaring, red flashing lights."

The name to which Kate refers belongs to 23-year-old Deanna Hummel, whose brother later claimed she'd been having a months-long affair with Jon.

For Kate, who has referred to her husband as "my balance, my strength and my stability," to now consider a future apart has been heartbreaking but not impossible. "You can't imagine yourself in a certain position when all this first happens, but you can do it over some months," she says.

"It's a lot like when I was first pregnant with the babies, and it was pure shock and denial. But over time I imagined six cribs in my house, and six car seats. When your mind is ready to go there, you can accept any number of scenarios."

Kate does have hope, however, that her marriage can be saved. "I will never give up hope that every member of our family can be absolutely happy again," she says.

seriously. this is so sad though, if they weren't in the public eye they would prob work through this. I mean how are they going to raise 8 kids apart? It's going to so hard. She should stop talking and get to counseling.

I don't know, he publicly humiliated her, may this is just payback? I'm not agreeing with this but its plausible.

What do people think will happen when they live their entire life in the public eye? That is not a normal existence and will have negative consequenses!
And for how she treats him on a regular basis, can't say I blame the guy!!

I actually do agree with Farah....she shouldnt be on the front over of People talking about this.

However I really feel bad for the whole family. No matter what anyone says about how "they should have known better" or "thats what they get for being 'celebs' I highly doubt they knew what a national phenom their show would become - let alone expect all this attention from a cable show. TLC is not exactly a network giant like NBC. I just dont think they went into this thinking we're gonna be stars as much as doing it perhaps to better their childrens' financial future. And now they're paying the price. Its sad especially for the kids. I hope they can work it out.

first, she was on the today show talking about it, then she was quoted as saying she wants the paps to leave her alone, then she talks to People about it

While I still stand by what I said above.....the more I look at her on the cover of People the more I'm thinking "what the hell is she thinking talking to People?!?!?!?!?!?"

I have now lost all respect for this woman. Talking about this to People is totally unfair to her family. If she is doing it to get back at Jon it's totally immature. But, Kate always has to defend herself she does it on the show and shes doing it now. She must have gotten a nice $$ for that. She's going to need it. If Jon goes so does the show!

She really has no privacy in life and she just made any privacy she did have go bye bye. I do not understand why she would talk to people. Her children can some day look this up and read it and what will they think?

I think it's yet another example of reality show breakup syndrome. You could not pay me ENOUGH to put my personal life on television! It's the kiss of death to the marriage of nearly everyone who does.

Not surprising really. They never struck me as a happy couple on TV, and I'm sure having 8 very young children doesn't make it easy. But bringing a reality show into the mix has probably made it all harder still.

I couldn't do this, talk about how my marriage is failing in a tabloid. To each their own, but I don't think it's right for their kids.

Basically this is an admission that he cheated and she is trying to spin it in her direction.

Her PR people are all over this and she had to talk to People in an effort to work things in the fashion that they want this to roll.

Divorce is definitely imminent...
Although I am SURE her church people are NOT please with this.

Every interview I've seen of her this week her response has been "we're dealing with this privately".
I guess that means..I can't talk about since PEOPLE already paid me for my story.
