Keto

Is there a specific health reason why you are doing keto? There is really no reason to cut out entire food groups if your goal is simply weight loss. A calorie deficit is sufficient and then you do not need to cut out the foods you love. I personally think macro counting is more sustainable long term if you plan on reintroducing carbs at some point.

DH and I started on Monday. Already down a few lbs each, though I know it’s all water weight. I also feel so much better. We will eventually reintroduce some whole grains and starchier vegetables.

How long do the baked goods keep? Particularly the bread? There is no way I can be baking every other day!

You can freeze the baked goods too.
Just defrost as you need.
DH used to make keto "bagels" and keep them in the freezer

While I don't do keto, I do find that when I cut my carbs way down I feel like night and day. No more bloat. I boat so badly with even a little bread or pasta.
And sugar is not good for anyone. Sugar is really the worst thing for your body.

Freezing is a good idea, thanks!

Yes, as soon as DH gets home from the gym I will get it from him.
I believe it's "fathead" dough.
But I'll get it.
Definitely get the trader Joe's Everything but the Bagel seasoning for them too. I think Costco or BJ's sells their own version in a larger container. It's soooo good.

Here is the one he uses but he sprinkles the everything but the bagel seasoning on top- I don't think they call for that in the recipe but it makes it more real. lol
Also if you google or go on pinterest, there a ton of keto bagel recipes.

resurfacing this post because I have been doing this for a couple of weeks now and wanted to add a site that could be helpful!

Go to bariatricdirect.com ... I know it's not keto specific, but if you look at all the shakes, puddings, bars, soups and pastas, they all fall within the diet. I ordered a ton of stuff from here based on recommendations from two friends who lost like 20-30 lbs each. I usually eat a bar for breakfast, make my own lunch, another bar midday, make my own dinner, and I've been doing the puddings for dessert. Sometimes, I will do a shake instead of the pudding and have that for breakfast. For lunch, I've been doing alot of salads and for dinner I've been making alot of cauliflower rice with steak or chicken, and I've also done mexican casserole (lean ground beef, taco seasoning, onion, 7oz tomato sauce, & beans in a dish topped with shredded cheese. Bake at 400 on the top rack for 15 mins), and zucchini pie with cauliflower crust. I've also made zucchini lasagna :)

Anyway, I found buying stuff from that website has helped alot with sticking to keto because I don't feel as overwhelmed with preparing foods for every meal. I weighed myself a few days in and lost a couple of lbs, but I decided I am not weighing for month. Definitely have been losing though I can tell

Re: Keto

Just saw this recipe and it looks amazing so I figured I'd post it. It's not just for keto, but definitely works for keto. (it's leaner than most "keto" recipes I think )

Chicken Avocado Burgers

This recipe Makes 4 servings

Ingredients:
36 oz (raw weight) ground chicken breast
6 oz avocado
¼ cup diced onion
1 tsp mustard powder
½ tsp chili powder
1 tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp salt
½ tsp paprika
¼ tsp cumin
½ cup shredded zucchini

Directions:
1. In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients except the avocado.
2. Once the spices are thoroughly mixed into the chicken gently stir in the avocado.
3. Form the mixture into 4 patties using your hands.
4. Grill over medium high heat for about 5-7 minutes on each side. Make sure the burgers reach a temperature of 165° F. Enjoy!
