Keto diet...

So for a few months I have been doing the low carb diet, following the Atkins plan. I have plateaued and have been reading up on the keto diet which seems similar except you eat a ton of fat, moderate protein and very low carbs. Pros cons, anyone have any experience with this diet?

Keto diet...

It is very hard to get your body into ketosis and stay there- I tried it a few years ago as part of a migraine treatment and could not eat enough fat to stay in ketosis. If you are set on trying this diet you may want to get a medium chain fatty acid supplement.
Personally, I find carbohydrate cycling helps me get past plateaus when I am trying to lose weight.

I read how much fat you need to eat and it is alarming. I'm gonna at least try it, and will get myself MCT oil. Seems that will help like you said. I will try carb cycling if this is a fail. Thanks for your input! Chat Icon

Re: Keto diet...

I've been sort of doing this diet for the past month and a half. Sometimes I go over the carb amount & im not eating as much fat as you're supposed to. But just staying close to the guidelines is helping me more than any other diet I've tried. I lost 6 pounds in the first four weeks...the last two weeks I've been traveling for work, so not able to work out as much & harder to eat right. So I've just been maintaining & going up and down a pound or 2. I think just cutting carbs down &refined sugar a lot, helps a lot.

Re: Keto diet...

Your best bet is to focus more on carb cycling like the PP mentioned to break the plateau.

Keto is only good if it is a lifelong way of life. If you don't, once you reintroduce carbs you're looking at a substantial gain from water retention alone.

A calorie deficit is the only way to truly lose weight.

I have only about 10-15 pounds to lose, and the low carb diet has helped but I think maybe carb cycling is the way to go. I tried keto for a few days and it's very difficult to stick with! Very limited in what you can eat.

Keto diet...

I have been following Keto forever. It is not hard at all.

It is 70% fats, 25 % protein and 5% carbs

After the first 3-5 days you enter ketosis and have incredible energy. Your skin will glow. It is not a diet that you ever feel hungry on at all.

Keto diet...

Look into IIFYM - I started doing it in May - following maintenance numbers - and have had a lot of success with body recomposition.

I've been following it for 3 weeks. So far it's been pretty easy. I expected to go thru the 'keto flu' but it was really mild. I will not weigh myself because I totally get obsessed. I've definitely lost inches. My face, stomach, arms and legs are noticeably thinner. My energy is ridiculously high! My body feels so much better. My skin looks amazing, I stay full for longer periods of time and if I do get hungry I can ignore it for a bit if need be. I plan on following this long term.

Never mind! The other comments pretty much answered my questions about Keto.
