Keto diet
DH & I have been researching this and would like to try it. We don't need to lose weight, but we want to feel better. I just feel sluggish and tired, my stomach is always hurting, my mood is very anxious and depressed all the time, and I am achy. I just never feel healthy. I have been tested for medical conditions and everything has come up negative. Once I told my doctor my diet, he told me that was absolutely the reason I am feeling the way I do. With 5 kids between the ages of 2 and 7, who has time to eat healthy? I make sure they get proper nutrition, but me? Forget it. Anyone have success with this? I am more interested in how it made you feel over if you lost weight. Did you find it very difficult to follow? TIA!

Keto diet
I started today but have done other diets in the past that put you on ketosis. The first week sucks!!!!!! After that if you stay in ketosis you will have a energy and feel good.
Gluten could be a big cause of your issues so keto is little to no gluten.

Re: Keto diet
Dh has lost a shit ton of weight on it, but yes he says he has never felt better in his life. It does give you more energy and addresses inflammation in the body. Sugar is really the root of sooooo many evils so eliminating it will make a difference. Like PP mentioned the first week you will feel like shit as your body goes through withdrawals...they call it the keto flu. He said after that it's smooth sailing though and he is never ever hungry and has no cravings all. Just be aware there is no "cheating" on this. You have to stay in ketosis to reap the benefits and even one bad meal can knock you out of it and its hard to get back in. Also be aware that if you have a hard time eating healthy due to kids and a crazy schedule, this won't be much easier. He measures everything and tracks everything that goes in his mouth.

If you get out of ketosis - how hard it is to get back in will depend on how bad you cheated. If it’s small it will be easy to get back in. Also the keto flu severity will depend on how bad your diet is before you start.

Re: Keto diet
My friend at work follows keto diet, along with his wife. His wife lost 30 lbs without ever working out. My friend lost too but he didn't have much to lose and works out every day. He says they both feel great. My two cousins just started it also.

Keto diet
What does your diet look like now is the real question? Small changes might make all the difference.
Also how active are you? I find exercise greatly improves mood.
I have never done keto as I am not a fan of limiting food groups.

Re: Keto diet
You don't have to do keto to change how you feel. And as others have said, you have to get and stay in ketosis for it to work.
Try cutting gluten, other processed grains, dairy, soy and processed sugar. Up your water intake, start with a large glass of water with lemon everyday, and cut down on caffeine.
The first week sucks because you're detoxing, after that you should feel amazing.
It's an anti-inflammatory diet, you can find tons of recipes and info on it. It's much easier than keto - you don't have to count or measure or track anything.

Keto diet
I have tried a Keto diet a couple of times and I find it very difficult to get into and stay in ketosis. I just cannot handle a high fat diet. I get abdominal pains.

Re: Keto diet
my nephew has lost about 150lbs following the keto diet.
when he comes over for family gatherings, he eats ALL the meat and green veggies. i don't think i've seen him eat anything else.
i wouldn't be able to follow this diet. i find that animal products tend to make me bloated. when i go vegetarian and/or vegan, i feel great and the weight just falls off my body. i've slowly been getting SO to reduce meat and animal products. we're making progress.

I also could never do it because I had my gallbladder removed and too much fat now gives me rhe runs!

Re: Keto diet
I don't do well on high fats. My body doesn't like it. And the thought of drinking bulletproof coffee makes me gag. DH and I tried Whole 30 a while back, it taught me some good things, like eating protein for breakfast keeps me fuller longer than if I ate a bagel. It is an elimination diet, certain food groups like dairy, grains, soy, sugar are cut out for 30 days and then reintroduced back into your diet one at a time. This way you can tell what your body reacts to and then you can avoid that particular food groups. Giving up dairy was hard, but I learned that I can have dairy, just not a whole lot of it in a day.
DH and I do WW now for weight loss, but the Whole30 way of eating still sticks in my meal planning. DH was introduced to avocados on the plan and learned that he liked them.

You don't HAVE to eat red meat on it. You just need to get your fat and red meat tends to have more fat, but you can also get fat from fatty cuts of chicken like chicken thighs, and of course avocados, coconut oil, butter , nuts, cheeses etc.
But yeah, it's not for a person with no gallbladder, that is for SURE

Re: Keto diet
My brother/mother do keto. They do drop the weight quickly when they do it buttttttt they always seem to gain it back when they get off of keto & then they drop it again when they go back on lol. My mom keeps trying to convince me to do it but.. I'd rather stick to something more sustainable for me (WW).

Keto diet
I don't know much about the diet, but a co-worker was doing it (and sticking to it) and it made his breath smell really BAD! Like you couldn't be anywhere remotely near him when he was speaking - really really bad! I don't know if that happens to everyone, but he did tell me it was a side effect of the diet

Re: Keto diet
my husband and I both did it for a month. It was OK and easy to manage, but I didnt see it as something I could sustain as a lifestyle. I lost 6 lbs and he lost 12, but we then switched to weight watchers. WW is definitely a better fit for us and has been easier to maintain. I would definitely buy some Keto cookbooks on amazon if you are going to do it. It helps to have books to plan from instead of having to google all the time.

Keto diet
I did it for a while (for health and well-being more than weight loss) and although I don’t do strict keto anymore, it taught me a lot about cutting out sugars and all the extra carbs hidden in everything. My diet is very different now vs before Keto, though I do now eat more than 20g carbs a day (only “good” ones though for the most part). I think it can’t hurt to try it - see how it goes, and worst case, you learn a lot and can build some new, healthier habits. You realize that there are so many ways to cut out sugar here and there - and that alone is a great thing!

He probably went into ketoacidosis. That's when there's dangerous amounts of ketones. For most people, they never get to that point, but for some, it's an issue. It's common in diabetics. It's one of the early diabetes diagnosis signs to look for.
I can't do this type of diet, because as a diabetic, I need sugars and carbs to maintain my blood sugar, and as emergency blood sugar pick-ups.
I can see how it could work for some people, though.

Re: Keto diet
Just saw this article on FB and thought of you, OP. Maybe if you don't want to go full keto, which is hard and very strict, just try cutting down your sugar a bit.

Re: Keto diet
I tried it and lasted two weeks but couldn't do it anymore... I felt like all I was eating was eggs and meat. I think if you plan and prep it may be easier.

Keto diet
Thanks, everyone!! My diet isn't terrible, but it's not great. I do like most veggies and eat a good amount daily. We try to limit red meat to once a week and do lots of chicken or veggie based dishes for dinner. I do eggs, salad, cheese, etc. BUT, I hate fruit- all fruit. My kids could down pounds of fruit in 5 seconds. I have no desire to have it, ever. I also love sweet stuff- my DD order is always an iced or hot coffee very light with cream, and very sweet. I love cookies, cake, brownies, ice cream. Not really into anything salty like chips. We do whole wheat bread but I buy white pasta- I just don't like the taste of whole wheat. We also do quinoa & couscous. I like salads, but with tons of dressing. Oh, and the worst- I HATE water. I will drink flavored seltzer and iced tea. Sprite or Ginger Ale once in awhile. But never water. Luckily my kids only like water and milk. Nervousnell- I will look into cutting sugar. We were also thinking of the Whole 30, because that seems like something even my kids could do. Except, I would still let them eat the dairy and the whole grains. I would never let them eat all of the fat associated with keto. Anyway, thanks for all of the advice! There is lots to think about.

Well the upside for you is fruit isn't really allowed on keto so you'd do great there. LOL. The downside no sugar, no sweets, and even wheat bread is a no/no. I personally don't think you need to go as hardcore as keto...my Dh had a lot of weight to lose and was insulin resistant so it worked for him...not to mention he has the willpower of a Saint! I think if you cut down on the sugar and processed snacks you will feel a world better.

I actually think you would like keto. I hate fruit too. I am on day 2. I love it so far (outside of the cooking part). I love when I eat healthy but am definitely a cake and cookie type person. I have done a diet in the past similar to keto and always had success for years until I stop cooking and all goes to hell.
