Ketones in urine? What does this mean in ENGLISH

So i met with high risk doc yesturday and baby is ok, he is still concerned about all this pain and calls me his "pain in the but patient" because he really has no idea what is going on or cooking in there. So i have to be monitored weekly now and see him every other week. I dont mind cuz in a way it puts me at ease as well. But he was a little concerned that i had 2+ ketones in my urine? anyone expierence this. MY pressures are low 90/70 hr is high and the nurse in me tells me that its dehydration.. though i drink my gallon a day if not close to it.

if your drinking that much of water, you shouldn't be dehydrated. Believe me I should know. I drink so much water a day I am surprise there isn't a lake or ocean named after me

my hubbie said its possible your body isn't absorbing the water. Did the doctor check your kidney's, or if your BM are very Loose (sorry TMI). He said your intestines and kidney's absorbs the water.

I also forgot to mention that DH said ketones are caused by dehydrations also.

I had ketones once during one of my checkups.

It was an odd day as that had never happened to me before.

My DR attributed it to dehydration or waiting to long to eat/hunger.

Truthfully, that day I ate lunch really late and did not drink my normal 64oz that I usually drink during the work day.

thanks so much. im sure between the dehydration and not eating for a whole day cuz i was sleeping from working nites plays a big role as well.

I have a slightly different take on the whole "ketones in urine" scenario...

Many years ago, I went on the Atkins diet. Lost a ton of weight. Gained it all back and then some. But I digress.

When you're on the Atkins diet, you actually WANT ketones to show up in your urine. It means that you've entered a state known as ketosis, which essentially means that your body has begun to burn its own fat for energy.

You might be wondering, what does this have to do with me? I guess the only thing I can think of is, are you sure you're eating enough calories per day to sustain yourself? Are you eating frequent, smaller meals? If you've been having bouts of morning sickness, that could be the cause.

I do want to say that I'm not a doctor, but I did a lot of research on this because I had trouble actually KEEPING myself in ketosis.

Hope this helps some, but you may want to call your Dr. back to see exactly what you should be doing about it.

I had to monitor for ketones both pregnancies and have been hospitalized in the past.

You may think you are getting in enough but unless you are writing everything down there is a possibility you are not. So you may be dehydrated...another scenario is any medication you may be taking

I always had ketones.

But I had hyperemisis......you are more likely dehydrated.
