Kids sharing a room ........??

Tell me the good, the bad and the ugly -

We have a cape w/ the staris in the center of the house so the upstairs is an extremely awkward space - We've decided to convert it to a master suite w/ a bathroom - but are not comfortable w/ the kids being downstairs while we're upstairs -

So, the two boys (once Baby 2 comes in May) will go up there for now ....

Am I insane to do this?

I don't think you're insane for having them share a room.

I do think the first year may be tough. The way Tyler was always up the first six months, I feel like he would have constantly woken up Jack if they shared a room.

But, you have to do what you have to do. If they share it from day one it may not make a difference.

I would probably keep the baby in your room until he's STTN and then have them bunk together - for your own sanity.

Re: Kids sharing a room ........??

Sean is an awesome sleeper and sleeps through my annoying Yorkie's constant yapping - I'm not TOO worried about him waking up -
I AM a little worried about them being up there alone, in that ginormous space to wreak havoc together once the littel one gets to the walking stage !!

Wait, so the kids are upstairs, and you'll be down. I wouldn't worry too much about the walking stage if they're still in cribs.

I don't think the kids should share a room for the first year or so. After that, it's totally fine.

Yes! They will absolutely destroy it. But, they'll destroy any room they are in. Chat Icon

One thing I wish I had now is the video monitor that pans the room. There are so many times the boys are playing in Jacks room at 5:30 in the morning and I'm laying in bed listening to them. I wish I had the video monitor that moved so that I could spy on them.

Baby in our room isn't an option - NOT having Sean in our room was one of the best things we did - also, there's just no space for a PNP or bassinet in our room -

If Sean's a sound sleeper, than it shouldn't be an issue Chat Icon

Re: Kids sharing a room ........??

My kids share a room now. They are 3 years old and 7 months. DS was in my room until he was 4 months old when he outgrew the co-sleeper.

And heaven help me but my son is not STTN yet. Chat Icon

He usually does not wake up my DD - it really depends on what time he wakes. If it's 2/3/4 am she'll sleep through it. If it's 5am she'll be up. For the day. Chat Icon

But overall it's not so bad. I don't think it's a crazy idea at all.
