Kidz Therapy or Little Village for OT and PT

My son will start receiving services next month. He is not on the spectrum, but has issues with balance, coordination, and decreased muscle tone (in hands too). It affects his speech when he's puts longer sentences together, but this question is about OT and PT. Which center would you recommend for receiving OT and PT services. This is such an overwhelming process. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've been to the KT center in Suffolk and they have a really nice gym.

We're actually getting the services in the community w/ a different agency though because it was too difficult to get DS up to the North Shore with my work schedule.

Re: Kidz Therapy or Little Village for OT and PT

My daughter just started going to Kidz Therapy for speech and OT a week and a half ago. The jury is still out for me...the parking is terrible, the waiting room at "shift changes" is a zoo and I'm not feeling like I'm getting a lot of connection between the speech therapist and my daughter. I'm giving it a chance as this is just for the interim until I can find her a half day special preschool spot and then she will receive services there.

My son goes to LV for OT after school 2 days a week. I love his therapist and she has a great relationship with my son. She has been with him for a year & a half now even after my son left their pre k program to transfer to another school.

Is this the Kidz Therapy by Roosevelt Field? My DS had therapy there for a year. That waiting room is just awful. Picture a huge room, full of kids waiting for their sessions or coming out of their sessions. Picture all the siblings of those kids. Picture all the parents, enjoying their phones and ipads, blissfully ignoring their children running wild all over the place. That's the scene at Kidz Therapy. A weekly part of my life I was so glad to ditch when DS was done.

My son was suppose to go there too. They kept rescheduling his days. Then they wouldn't call me back. When I finally got someone, they told me that he had missed the first 4 classes.. I told them it would have been nice for them to have actually called me to tell me when he was suppose to be there... Chat Icon

Re: Kidz Therapy or Little Village for OT and PT

Sounds like a drastic difference between the offices.

Kidz Therapy in Suffolk, I went to their office about 3 or 4x and was the only one in the waiting room.

Lots of parking too.

Staff were also always very professional and on top of things.

ETA: I believe my niece goes to Little Village for speech. My FIL takes her to her sessions and I have always heard him speak positively about them as well as the staff.

Thanks for all the responses. I hate almost anything in the Roosevelt Field area to begin with, and that center sounds rough! However, I didn't realize that I may not be able to use either place. I guess it's hard to find therapists with open times this late in the school year. I'll have to keep looking around.

It is super hard to find anywhere after the school year starts. I have been trying for 3 months... I am on two waiting lists.. ACDS and Dove rehab in Deer Park... How many days are you looking for? DS only qualified for 1 day and the places that had openings, wouldn't take him because they didn't want to lose out on one day!

DS was approved for 2 days of 30 minutes each. If you can FM me the name of the places that might have had those openings, that would be very helpful!

Re: Kidz Therapy or Little Village for OT and PT

Since DS spends most of his time in Nassau and I work/live in Suffolk, I was having a heck of a time finding an OT as well, on top of the mid-school year issue.

I ended up finding someone through NY Therapies.

She goes to my ILs for the two sessions (Nassau).

ETA: I also put it back on the school district and they recommended this agency. They said it would be nuts for me to have to go down everyone on the list.

OT is particularly tough to find after the school year starts. I think we also got someone mid-year through NY Therapies.

Re: Kidz Therapy or Little Village for OT and PT

Yes, the one by Roosevelt Field. I don't blame the waiting room on anyone but the adults who allow their kids to run rampant...a few times I've been there a mom has actually played Angry Birds on full volume on an iPad with her son. I would never subject a room full of people to those noises (crash! smash! glass breaking!).

The staff has actually been lovely and I feel lucky to have gotten back-to-back sessions mid-year. They had to rearrange a few things to make that happen so I don't have anything bad to say about them. I just wish people would use common courtesy when in a waiting room!

Yep this is a pretty accurate description of the Garden City location. But maybe you are not asking about that one?
