Re: Kind of a dumb question.... Anyone fearful....
I was a little nervous b/c I knew I needed twice the amount of items for the twins. I looked at my registry and all of my big items were bought. I was really surprised. I think people will still buy what you register for.

Re: Kind of a dumb question.... Anyone fearful....
I know it would not influence any gifts I give to people. We just went to an engagement party and we gave the same gift we would have given, regardless of the economy. But, neither of us have been laid off or are in jeopardy of being laid off. I really see that as the only time that it might have an impact on gifts being given. JMO.

I wouldn't be fearful, any gift is just that a gift...and whatever people can afford to give you is a wonderful gesture. People don't HAVE to give gifts...its just a lovely, kind thing to do.

I wouldn't be fearful...Even though I can see this could be true for some, I am more then confident that people will do what they can do....Having a baby brings out another side in people & I feel people become very generous....

Never really thought about it, but I think people who really love and care about you will make it happen.

Never thought of it either. I also have gotten a TON of $25.00 giftcards to places such as BRU, and trust me, as a new mom, they come in really handy. Just proves that "a little" can really go a long way........

Re: Kind of a dumb question.... Anyone fearful....
It does make me wonder how much DH and i will end up buying. Maybe by the time we are in the 30 week range and start having baby showers the economy will have picked up. I put alot of item under $20.00 and $10.00 just in case on my registry.

Actually, I think babies don't need a whole lot of "stuff". I think it's just our society that makes us think we need a gigantic registry and everything on it.

Re: Kind of a dumb question.... Anyone fearful....
I am not sure fearful is the word.
The thought that people will spend differently has occurred to me-- people are spending differently everywhere, gift giving is not immune to this.
We bought the stuff we absolutely needed ourselves-- and we'll buy whatever else we need when we need it, if someone else hasn't beaten us to it. Close famly members have also helped us out with other must have items before the baby gets here.
When having a baby, you gotta plan to spend some $$$$. You can't count on people buying things for you. It's nice-- but, it's inevitable that there will be some stuff you have to buy yourself.

Oh I know DH and I will def have to buy stuff on our own. I was just worried we wouldn't get anything that could help us out. This whole encomony thing just has me worried and having a baby at a time like this is a little scary to me. I just want the best for my child as we all do. And I don't know why I feel like I won't be able to give him or her that. I don't know why I think like this, dh and I both have good jobs so don't know I'm so worried.
That's for the replys ladies.

I know it's overwhelming, when you start to tally everything up. But, you really don't need everything at once-- just buy what you need when you need it, that is if you haven't already received it.

And this is NOT a flame, you cannot expect people to buy you everything you need at a shower!

This is exactly what we did. I also didn't have a shower, but either way I probably would have purchased the bare minimum of what we need for when the baby comes home.

And this is NOT a flame, you cannot expect people to buy you everything you need at a shower! I totally agree with you. I didn't mean to sound like I wanted everyone to buy me everything I need. That not what I meant at all and I'm sorry if I came off like that. I knew dh and I would have to buy things ourself,I was just worried on not receiving any help like racheee said when you tally it all up its overwhelming. Ill be so greatful for whatever I get. Just being a 1st time mom I'm fianlly seeing how much it all costs and its scary.

Re: Kind of a dumb question.... Anyone fearful....
I'm not fearful that they won't come. If anything, I feel bad that I am burdening them with having to buy me a gift. I don't care if no one buys me anything.
I really don't like the idea of having a registry in the first place. I'd prefer to buy everything myself. I know that I love buying others gifts but don't like expecting gifts from others.
