Kind of a sticky topic

Was there ever a student you sort of hoped wasn't in your child's class?

DC is in preschool now and will be going to K with many kids from his perk class. There is a child who plays rough, etc. I don't want to go into too many details... But, is there anything at all I can do? DH thinks that when we have our interview with the school staff(I think psychologist), we should request that they not be in the same class. I'm really not sure about doing that. Any advice? TIA.

Does your son have any direct issues with this child or do you just not like how rough he is in general? I don't have any experience with this since my son is starting kindergarten in the fall as well, but I would think it is worth mentioning to the school only if your son has had direct problems with this kid that are documented with the preschool. There are plenty of kids in my son's class that I would prefer not be in his class next year, but I don't think there is much you can do about it unless he is in immediate danger or has a history of problems with this child.

Yes. Luckily I wasn't the only one. The school psychologist felt the same way. For the rest of elementary school , they were separated.

I also know someone who had their kid separated from an overbearing friend because it was affecting their kid socially. (the kid would try to interfere with any friendships & monopolize them in any activity.

Advice: Speak to the school counselor. If your school allows you to have class request /letters, write it up.

Yes not that this kid did anything directly to my child, but I was glad when he changed elementary schools because he was a huge distraction in class.

I have had that feeling. But unless there was a concrete issue between the kids, I probably wouldn't say anything.

Yes, I agree. Also, there will always be another "that kid" in the class, so it's not like you'll be able to keep your child away from troublemakers, etc. for good.

Same here. My sons have had to deal with 'difficult' personalities in their classes before... and they will have to deal with those types of personalities throughout their lives.
