Kinda Silly Size Question....
are NEWBORN clothes/onesies the same as 0-3 months???
i have exactly 3 NB onesies and a TON of 0-3 month stuff....should i get a few more NB or are they the same??? (though my gut and growth sonos have VERY little doubt she's going to be small)

Re: Kinda Silly Size Question....
If they are thinking the baby is on the bigger side don't waste your money on Newborn size. I that newborn size is 5-8lbs and 0-3 months goes from 8-12lbs.

Re: Kinda Silly Size Question....
I would wait til DC gets here to get more stuff.
I have NB sized stuff that is big still-- and some other 3M size that she grew out of, or never even wore.
Every brand fits differently, so you just need enough to get through initially and you will do SO much laundry that you don't need a ton of stuff either. You will do at least a load every day.
eta-- sorry, I didn't fully understand your question..
I will say that we had both Gerber and Carter onsies. She is still in the 3M size in Carters, but has moved up to the 3 to 6 month in Gerber since she grew out of the 0 to 3. I don't think I ever saw NB size though.
We also had to go out and get some more clothes once we got her home since most of what we had was too big. She was 6lbs; 15oz.
So, have some stuff on hand-- but don't wash a lot of stuff til you know what really will be used.

Re: Kinda Silly Size Question....
NB is smaller than the 0-3, so if you have a small baby, you'll need the NB. In your case, since you have a few, and you're likely going to have a larger baby - I wouldn't bother getting any additional NB. If the baby arrives and is teeny, you can always send someone out to get them at that point.

Re: Kinda Silly Size Question....
Not a dumb question
In general, they are not the same. Are they Carters? DD was born at 7 lbs, 8 ounces and fit into newborn onesies for a month I'd say...I mean, she could wear some of the 0-3 month stuff during that time, but the newborn fit her better.
Personally, I'd get another package of Newborn onesies and keep the receipt...don't wash until you know what baby will fit in. I know some kids skip Newborn clothes, but I'd say the majority of babies do fit into Newborn for a few weeks...and with the explosive poop and spit-up, you're changing their outfits often.
ETA: DD lived in Carters onesies, that's why I asked the brand...Carters are always roomy, so we got good use out of them. A smaller-run brand may not have worked for as long for us.

Re: Kinda Silly Size Question....
Its soo hard to determine.
First- No the sizes are not the same.
And my son weighed 7lbs 11 oz at birth, came home at 7 lbs 5 ozs and he was swimming inthe 0-3 month stuff.
We had like you , maybe 3 articles of NB sized clothing...so we sent a family member out to BRU the day we got home to get those pull on Gerber Pants and onsies.
My suggestion...buy more NB stuff and you can always return it ( keep the reciept) but you will be happy you have it, if the baby is not too big.
I would say my son wore that size for about 6-8 weeks...and even longer

Re: Kinda Silly Size Question....
I'm probably going to repeat everything that was said already, but oh well! My DD was 8 lbs 7 oz , 20 inches at birth and she was swimmmmmmming in the 0-3 sized clothing. She wore newborn sized clothes for almost 2 months. I DEFINITELY got my money's worth out of the newborn clothes. I also really liked the Carters brand of clothing, I find they wear really nice and she's 4 months now still in the 3 month Carters. As a PP mentioned, the 3 month Carters still fits her, but in Gerber she's in 3-6 month clothing. Every clothing brand fits differently.

Re: Kinda Silly Size Question....
allison's carter's newborn onesie lasted her til she was 12 pounds or so...i guess each baby puts the weight on differently, it was only supposed to last her to 8lbs, but she got longer before she got bigger so we had to retire that onesie! i say play it by ear...you'll be itching for a reason to get out anyways, this way if you need to, you'll have an excuse!

Normally 0-3 is bigger than NB but it depends on the brands.

Re: Kinda Silly Size Question....
I agree with the above. But if your growth sonos say it will probably be a big baby, then get some bigger stuff too. I gave birth to a toddler. He came home in 6-9 month clothing. Luckily our growth sonos were right on, so I washed bigger clothes just in case.
BTW: Gerber runs really small.

Re: Kinda Silly Size Question....
thank you sooooooooooo much girls!!!!!
i have a few things to return to Carters - so maybe i'll grab some NB and 0-3 month basic white onesies...and keep the receipt!
i have my next (and final) growth sono on the 19th....so i guess that will give us a good idea of how she's doing - but she has been measuring large (at 32 weeks, her head was at 36 weeks!!!!!!)!

Ah dont believe the growth sonos! LOL
I had them WEEKLY and the Dr. said he would be around 8 and 1/2 lbs....and that one lb difference that he was, makes a BIG difference in size. Plus all babies are shaped different too.
Ahh you are making me remember those baby days and getting all sappy

Re: Kinda Silly Size Question....
oh Donna - i know they can be off and wrong. i have been having them every 4 weeks since week 20 - because of a VERY early GD diagnosis (i was diagnosed at 16 weeks)....so the chances of her being large have been there for a long time...we shall see!

OHHH I forgot this...so your right, there is a good chance ( very good) she will be on the bigger size...
hmm , in that case. I think you'll be ok with the 0-3 month stuff. And you can always send someone to go buy more like I did.

Re: Kinda Silly Size Question....
I only had 4 items for NB. The rest was 0-3 months.
DS was 7Lbs13oz and 21 inches. We had to get 1 extra one piece footsie PJ but that's it. 2 weeks later a couple of his NB were too small already. The 0-3 was VERY big on him but it lasted longer.

yup, totally agree. granted, my son was born small (6lbs, 9oz), but he wore NB for at least 6-8 weeks.
you can't go by the weights on the tags either. the NB stuff fits way past 8lbs, and the 0-3 month stuff can be really big. and every brand is different. it's actually very frustrating (even now, when 18 month clothing can be too small or SWIMMING on my son! argh)
strongly suggest buying NB stuff and keeping the tags on. if your baby doesn't fit into it you can always return it.

the 0-3 stuff was big on her but the NB stuff was too small

Re: Kinda Silly Size Question....
Jess - This one was measuring 6lbs at 32w 6 days - so they are estimating if I make it to my csection date she will be about 9lbs. So I'm going by my DD's size.
DD was 9lbs 4ozs and 20 inches. I didn't get newborn b.c everyone told me she would be too big. I ended up going with 0-3 and honestly it was huge on her. I got a few newborn outfits as gifts and she actually fit into them for a while.
I would say if you think the baby will be larger - get mostly 0-3 - worst case they are a little bit and you get more wear out of them. But I would have some newborn items on hand and maybe keep the receipts and don't wash them (or only wash 1-2) this way if the baby is too big you can have someone return them for you.

Re: Kinda Silly Size Question....
DS was 8 lbs 1 oz at birth and wore NB clothes until he was 1 month old. The NB clothes are smaller than 0-3 month clothes. Carters runs really big. DS wears 3-6 month clothes, but can still fit into the Carters 0-3 month onesies. Gerber runs really small. He wears 6-9 month Gerber onesies. The Carters onesies hold up so much better than the Gerber onesies. The Carters onesies are also thicker and better quality.

Re: Kinda Silly Size Question....
From the advice of other mommies, I exchanged the NB clothing that I had for 0-3 months. DS was born about 6 pounds so he is small and the 0-3 months is totally fine. It's slightly loose but I can't imagine squeezing him into more fitted clothing right now. He spends most of his days in snap shirts and sleepsacks anyways. Most of his clothing just sits in his drawers.

Re: Kinda Silly Size Question....
It all depends on the size of your baby. My babies were born small (4lb15oz and 5lb1oz). They wore preemie clothes for the first 2-3 weeks (and were not preemies). They wore NB for about 3 months. Right now, at 4 months, they are fitting into 0-3 clothes, but many of them are still VERY big. I would wait until the baby is born to buy more stuff. We have so many clothes that were unworn or worn only a couple of times because all the 0-3 clothes we got/bought were for the winter. Now that its getting warmer I have to try to return so many things and buy them new stuff because we got all 3-6 for spring and 6-9 for the summer.
And as PP have mentioned, carters runs REALLY big.
