Kindergarten
My son needs to be enrolled in kindergarten in september....I think im late enrolling him. But I don't know how to go about all of it and what type of documents I need.
I don't really have anyone to ask so I hope I can get some advice here. Thanks

Re: Kindergarten
I'm sorry I don't know. I would call the local elementary school - I'm sure one of the secretary's can tell you exactly what you need! Good luck!

Re: Kindergarten
yep call now. i know its so weird calling in january to enroll in september but thats how they do it. i had to enroll my dd in prek last year, and i just called up the school and said. "hello, i would love to enroll my dd for prek, can you let me know what i need and when it is", she needed an immunization form, orginal birth certificate, and two forms of address, ie con ed bill, phone bill, etc.

Re: Kindergarten
I'm a kinder teacher and my school district starts in either dec or jan. It's never too late to enroll. You need to call your district's administrative office and not the elementary school- if you do, they will just tell you to call the district office anyway. I believe you need the birth cert. and proof of residence in the town you live. You must do this in person. Then the elementary school will contact you in the spring to set up a kindergarten screening. That day you will go to the elementary school (they will tell you what to bring if you need anything). You will be given a form to fill out regarding your family history and about your child (milestones- when they were reached, any health alerts, concerns, etc.) Your DC will then be taken to be screened. The speech teacher will do a speech and language screening, the reading teacher will do a screening, the nurse will also and the kindergarten teachers will do a screening. They will test for speech, health (eyes, hearing etc.) and academic. They will also test your child's coordination (standing on one foot, catching a ball, jumping etc). If anyone has any concerns, they will either ask you to stay to chat with them or they may ask you to come back.
That's how it's done in my school. I believe it's pretty much the same in all districts.
Good luck!
