Kindergarten and bathrooms

DD will be starting kindergarten next year-I have a few silly bathroom questions,

Do kindergartens have bathrooms IN the classroms? Mine did, not sure if that's normal.

When DD uses public restrooms now, I am with her, so I put the paper on the seat and hold her up because it's so high. Obviously I won't be able to do that next year. What do you have your girls do, put paper down themselves? Are the seats lower??

I am a little apprehensive bat the whole thing, DD is Scared of the flushing on the public toilets, it's too loud for merl. Now sure how she's going to handle this in school.

TIA

Re: Kindergarten and bathrooms

In my kids school there are bathrooms inside of the kindergarten and first grade classrooms. In public we put tp on the seat but I highly doubt she does it in school. I think you need to teacher her to flush though.

A lot of this depends on the actual school. Where I teach, the kindergarten classrooms have bathrooms inside the classrooms and the toilets are made for kindergarten-sized children. Your daughter will adjust just like all the other kids have and will! Chat Icon

Re: Kindergarten and bathrooms

Total germaphobe here but have gotten better since DD started K last year b.c you have to. I absolutely put TP on toilets when we go out in public but in school I didnt want to stress my DD out about doing it (plus she could never coordinate that, it would fall off, in, etc). I get much less skeeved with kids using toilets in school than I do in a public restroom elsewhere, since adults use those bathrooms too. For ex, women get their periods in public bathrooms, but in school, you only have to deal with "kid germs". So no, I really don't know what my DD does in school. I am sure it would make me Chat Icon but I deal. All schools are different but our K classes had bathrooms.

Kindergarten and bathrooms

In our school we have bathrooms in all classrooms up and including 3rd grade. The toilets are kid sized so it should be comfortable for them. Not to be gross but the bathrooms are nasty lol. With 20 something K kids using them, it's pretty messy by the end of the day. The kids deal though and I know in my DD's school they have to wash before and after going into the bathroom. She will need to flush though.

DS pees/poops in school in kiddie toilets. They are shared between several classrooms. I was so proud that when he went, he'd actually do a decent job at wiping his butt (NOT great, but decent enough).

They are low enough so that kid could reach.

No, no paper on seats (kiddie pee may be smelly, but def not dangerous even if kid sits in someone else's).

And yes, get used to the flushing.

Re: Kindergarten and bathrooms

Unfortunately, you're going to have get over the germ potential.
In K she's going to be expected to go into the bathroom and handle all of her business herself.
Each school is different, my son's K class has a bathroom (kid sized) in the classroom.

Also, I'd work with her on her fear of flushing the toilet - b/c the first time she doesn't flush and another kid goes in there, she might get teased .........which may be even worse KWIM?
