Re: Kindle Fire
I am on mine right now! LOVE it so far. It is not an ipad but I knew that going into it. It is perfect for listening to music, reading, surfing web, etc. I sold my android phone b/c our monthly cell bill was crazy but I missed the phone so much. Kindle fire fills that hole pretty well without the insane bill every month. If it had a camera it would be perfect.
I am amazon-obsessed and had a lot of books and music already on the cloud so it came registered to my account with everything on it! Its super easy to navigate.
For the price you can't beat it and I highly recommend.

thats great, thanks so much for the feedback! This may be a dumb question but do you have to pay a monthly payment for the internet or will it just connect to our wi-fi at the house?

You can only connect to the wifi that is available so there is no monthly charge. Some people don't like that but for me that is a huge plus! I am trying hard to cut down on my monthly bills. The only issue with that is if you want to access something you need to have it already downloaded to your device. Some stuff is on my cloud (online storage) and not my device so it can only be used while I am connected. When you look up your files on the KF you can see if it is only on the cloud player or also on your device. The cool thing about that is your stuff will always be available online even if something happens to your kindle.
hth.

Re: Kindle Fire
I got it for DH for his birthday and he LOVES it. I actually accused him of ignoring DS the other night b/c he can't put it down LOL. The only thing we have noticed on it is there can be a slight delay in pages loading, like if you are scrolling through books or movies, the row below takes a second to load, but it's not a problem that I think is a make it or break it. Love that it is one stop shopping thru Amazon, makes downloading super easy. Definitely recommend it :)

What if you don't but it from Amazon? MY DH could have possibly got it from Best Buy. Will I have to set it up then myself? How is the battery life on it? Does the charger come with it?

Re: Kindle Fire
We have it and we're thinking about returning it. Without 3G or the ability to download the free movies and TV shows from amaozn prime, it's basically useless for us. At home, I use the laptop for the web and my regular kindle to read. DH uses an ipad while commuting.
Granted, we have a silly amount of gadgets. I guess the Kindle Fire doesn't do anything unique enough to make it stand out for us.

If you are a Prime member then you have access to ALL of the content amazon has available for streaming. Much of it is free, some things are paid rentals. If you're a Netflix subscriber you get ALL of their streaming content as well. As far as 3G, I had NO interest in 3G so the Kindle was perfect for me. I already have to pay for a stupid data plan for my phone so there was no way I was going to pay for another gadget every month. I tap into my WiFi at home, which is where I am most of the time anyway, and there aren't many places these days that don't have free WiFi so for me, I don't miss (or need) the 3G. If you commute I can see that being a necessity but it wasn't for me.
Prime members also get to borrow one book a month from amazon and there is no expiration date so you can take your time reading. The amount of books you can choose from is ENDLESS. LOVE that feature.
If you're looking for an inexpensive little multimedia machine than the Kindle Fire is a GREAT option. I'm very happy with it. I didn't need all the bells and whistles of the IPad and as many reviews have said, the Fire does about 80% of what the IPad does for like 1/3 the price so for me, it was a no brainer. It does everything I need, play games, hop online for email, browsing, and FB, plays music, watch TV and movies...........it's a perfect, portable, multimedia gadget. I LOVE it!
If you buy it elsewhere I imagine it's not hard to set up, so far everything on the Kindle has been easy and intuitive to figure out so I doubt the set-up is that difficult. Ultimately, you're going to have to set up an amazon acct if you don't have one (I cannot believe anyone out there doesn't have an amazon acct ..........I LIVE on that site!!!!) so you can store your content on their Cloud server. Again, I'm sure if you purchase it outside of amazon's website it's all pretty easy to figure out.

I'm sensitive to reading on computers but reading on the Fire doesn't bother me. I just lower the brightness of the screen when I read and it's fine.

But can you read it on the beach/outside..that was their claim to fame when the first edition came out why they were better than tablet readers...and you know what it is a good one...reading outside with an ipad is not great!

Re: Kindle Fire
I got the Kindle Fire this week and it's a nifty little tablet. I like it because it will fit well in my purse. There are some things that I don't like about the user interface, but it does the trick.
We plan to use it mostly for the kids, so they will stop asking for out iPads.
