New Nook Tablet vs. Kindle Fire?
Talk to me. What's the difference? I've been trying to read up on it, and it sounds like the Nook Tablet is the better option and worth the extra $50. From what I've read it sounds like the Nook is faster, lighter, and has more memory (plus an additional memory card slot).
But, my big question is this: I don't want it just as an e-reader. If I'm going to spend the money on it, I want to use it like an I-Pad. I want wi-fi, I want to DL games and apps, I want to watch Netflix on my tablet. Would this be possible with the Nook Tablet as well? I mean, I know I can google it and compare, but my brain is starting to go a little fuzzy! TIA!

im pretty sure the nook tablet comes with netflix and hulu preinstalled.
You should probably get the nook, and this is for totally selfish reasons... so that we can lend each other books.

I was absolutely thinking that, too! My co-worker has a Nook, too, and we read a lot of the same stuff.

Re: New Nook Tablet vs. Kindle Fire?
from my understanding, the biggest difference between the two is that the Nook Tablet has an sd card slot and the Kindle Fire does not. However, you do have storage in the amazon cloud for the kindle. Also, the Nook tablet is a little faster. The Nook Tablet comes loaded with netflix and hulu plus (both subscription services you need to pay for), but you with Amazon prime membership (also a subscription service you need to pay for) you can stream movies and tv shows from them. The reviews I read weren't sure if Amazon would allow netflix and hulu to have apps for the kindle fire.
If you want to use it like an ipad though, I'd recommend spending more money and getting an android tablet. Neither of these devices will have the full capabilities as one of those and also the screen is smaller. You can get the nook and kindle apps for the android tablets.
I think I will be going for the amazon fire. I have amazon prime membership, the slightly faster processor is not worth $50 to me. I have an original nook also. I am not thrilled with the way B&N have completely abandoned the original nook owners with no updates, no apps, etc. I only got the thing 6 months ago and it is obsolete.

Re: New Nook Tablet vs. Kindle Fire?
I'm think I'm leaning toward the Kindle for myself. Honestly I just can't afford the IPAD and the other tablets are not much cheaper. This is the most affordable thing out there and I do like that I can store almost anything in the Cloud on Amazon. Also it would make more sense to get prime for $80 and stream shows and videos as well as free express shipping, then to get a separate subscription through netflex or hula. And it is $50 less, not a ton of money but I have had great customer service with Amazon and feel this would be my best bet.
I will still keep listening to what others are saying.

Re: New Nook Tablet vs. Kindle Fire?
Both of these tables are running a variation of Google's tablet software.
With both, you will have access to stores (Fire obviously would use Amazon App Store) and not sure what the nook does.)
Yes, you can use this like an iPad. Depending on where you buy your books from my dictact which tablet you get. Amazon is gear to enchance your Amazon experience even further. I'm sure the nook is similar and either way, you "should" be able to download kindle or BN app on the other device.
But are a great price but the Nook is gear to take a part of what Amazon is doing and Amazon is trying to take from iPad. Either way, its a win win without buying a 500 iPad.

Yeah, I can't afford an I-Pad. Not at all, and like another poster said, the android tablets (because I looked into them as well!) were nearly as expensive.
I DO have a yearly membership with B&N since that's generally where I go to buy my books anyway. I do NOT have Amazon Prime or Cloud and I don't really know what these things are. And to think, I used to consider myself tech savvy.

The amazon cloud is basically just a virual place to store stuff. So anything you don't have on your device (like books books you've already read) can be stored in the cloud and you can access them anytime you are connected to wifi. A membership with B&N will not give you access to netflix or hulu plus, you will still have to pay for those memberships separately if you want to use them.
They are both android devices, but they restrict what you can do on them and what kind of apps you can install. So you wouldn't be able to get the app for kindle on the nook or vice versa as a previous poster mentioned. That's one of the reasons it is unknown whether you will be able to get the apps for hulu plus or netflix, because they are competitors for amazon.
Amazon also just started 1 free book a month for prime members and it has recent, best selling books. Nook has free book fridays but most of the time I haven't been to thrilled with the selection.
Overall though, I don't think you can go wrong with either device.

Re: New Nook Tablet vs. Kindle Fire?
Sooooo I went with the Nook Tablet. I have a B&N Membership so I got a discount on it. I also already have a netflix membership so I can utilize that feature, most of my friends/family have Nooks so we can share books, and I like the expandable memory.
So DH ordered it for me last night and it ships on Friday! WHOO HOO!
Thank you everyone for your input.
