Kindle Fire Vs. Ipad
Can someone tell me which one is better and which one they prefer. I would like to by one of them but not sure which way to go. I love to read and that's one of the reasons I was looking into the Kindle Fire but if I want to browse on the internet..play games maybe I should go with the Ipad. Any thoughts?

Re: Kindle Fire Vs. Ipad
The biggest difference is price and obviously a Kindle Fire is a LOT less money than an iPad. Heck you can get 2 Kindle Fires for the price of an iPad 2 and you can get 2 Kindle Fires plus a regular Kindle for the price of the new iPad with retina display.
I have an iPad and my sister has the Fire. As far as reading goes you can at least download the Kindle app to your iPad to read things as well as the Nook app and apple has it's own iBooks app. You'll definitely get access to more apps, games, and content in the Apple app store. However the Fire is nothing to turn your nose at because it does have many apps & games also. I like that the Fire is a little bit smaller than the iPad which makes it easy to just throw in your purse.
Just remember that while both are great, neither one of them can really be read in direct sunlight. So if you wanna beach/poolside read, you will get a helluva glare and it makes it near impossible to read when it's very sunny outside.
Because of this I actually got a Kindle Touch for when I went to read outdoors.

Re: Kindle Fire Vs. Ipad
I have the Ipad and my DD has the Kindle Fire. It depends on what app you have, but most of them we can find on both or a comparable one on both.
Personally I would buy the Kindle again over the Ipad, for a fraction of the price you can get virtually the same stuff on it.

Re: Kindle Fire Vs. Ipad
i really enjoy reading outside and with the ipad AND kindle fire you cant see the screen in the sun. i have the kindle fire and just bought the cheaper 89 kindle to read outside. if i would have realized this i would have gotten the ipad and the cheap kindle from the beginning. i find the kindle fire browser to be very slow compared to the ipad. (DH had the ipad2)

I actually have the ipad2 and have no problem reading it in the sun. There is an anti-glare sheet you can buy to put on it, and I just adjustnthe brightness settings and I am good to go.
Back to the OP I don't have experience with kindle but I have the kindle app on my iPad. I like the iBooks app better, but there's not as many books so I got the kindle app. I really love the iPad. The apps are limitless, it's replaced my laptop entirely.

Re: Kindle Fire Vs. Ipad
I have had 3 devices so far......
I have a Kindle touch which I use for reading, its lightweight has great battery life, easy on the eyes and good for reading outside. I find it really easy to read on, and honestly, couldn't see myself using my IPAD for this function.
I had a Nook Tablet, which is similar ot the kindle fire, I disliked it. It was heavy, battery life ws bad, the interface was clunky somewhat and I found it too small for what I wanted to do with it, whcih was play on the internet mostly, apps, and read the NY times in the AM.
I have a New Ipad, aka IPAD3. I love it. it is everything I wanted that the nook tablet wasn't. the display is better, the extra size makes webpages much easier to read and navigate. the articles from NYTimes fit nicely on the screen, and if anyone has an app that you want, its there on the IPAD. Also I find the touch screen a lot better and more responsive on the IPad vs nook. I don't use apps probably as much as some people. the battery life is much better than the nook, and the form factor and fit and finish is fantastic.
IPAD 2 is probably pretty close ot the same experience.
I got WIFI 16gb model for 499, and I bought a generic cover off of amazon for like $15
yes it does cost more than a fire or nook tablet, the experience is better for what I do with it. I honestly didn't find the Nook tablet to be an acceptable substitute. to me I got rid of the Nook tablet b/c I felt it didn't do what I wanted it to do, and would have done so even if I didn't get the IPAD, it was just not worth having to me.
I generally don't use a computer when I get home anymore, just IPAD
Having said that I didn't have a kindle fire, so I'm sure there are some parts of what I said that aren't applicaable. but I chose the nook tablet over the fire initially, and I don't think it would have changed my thinking too much, the touch sensitivity and screen size were probably the biggest negatives.

Re: Kindle Fire Vs. Ipad
I have an iPad 2 and I bought DW and my mom both Kindle Fires. I have to tell you, with the exception of the camera and 3G, I prefer the Kindle. The size is great, I feel like it is more durable and the price is amazing. I would never pay the $ for an iPad now.

Re: Kindle Fire Vs. Ipad
The main difference for me is Wifi. I wanted something that had the capability to surf when I wasn't at home or able to hook up to wifi. I got the ipad 3 with the $30 a month plan from Verizon.
Its awesome. Best thing ever!

Re: Kindle Fire Vs. Ipad
I have both, I had gotten the Kindle Fire first and I really liked it. It's a great, small tablet and I was happy with it but I REALLY wanted an IPad. Now that I finally have the IPad I don't know how I lived without it. But I guess it depends on your needs.
If all you want is an e-reader with the ability to go online every now and again, the Kindle is great. But for tons of online activity, games, etc. the IPad is so much better. You can't beat the size of the screen. It makes a HUGE difference when you're online. There is also SO many more apps for IPad. I was getting a little frustrated with my Kindle because they were games and apps I was interested in but they weren't available.
Also, with Kindle Fire there is no customization of your screen and no ability to organize your home screen. Everything sits in a "carousel" and you just rotate through what you want. I like that on my IPad I can alter the background and that I can categorize and organize all of my apps, games, etc. into folders and onto different screens.
Overall, I think the Kindle Fire does a good job and you can't beat the price. But if money isn't an object, I 100% recommend the IPad first. It's just an awesome piece of electronic genius. I LOOOOOOOVE mine!!
ETA - I have the IPad 3, WiFi only, 32mb of memory.
Also wanted to add that reading magazines is SOOOOOO much easier on the IPad. All of my mags offer an IPad app and it's great! With Kindle, because the screen is smaller, you're CONSTANTLY widening and scrolling to try and read a magazine. It's a little annoying. With the Ipad it's like looking at the full magazine page. Love it!
