King Size Bed - Issues getting into house?
We wanted to upgrade to a king, but I don't think it will fit through the stairway to get it upstairs..
Anyone have this problem, what did you do? I don't want to order it and then have to return it. We may have to stick with the queen, but I really wanted to upgrade since we are finally getting a larger bedroom

Re: King Size Bed - Issues getting into house?
I believe most times you can bend the mattress a bit to get it in, depends. But the boxspring you may have to put two twins together to get it up. We would have had this issue but did just wind up getting a Queen (only to regret it and now look to buy a KING anyway).

Re: King Size Bed - Issues getting into house?
king size beds come with two twin boxsprings so they can go up the stairs the mattress should be pliable enough to bend just enough to fit around stairs

Re: King Size Bed - Issues getting into house?
Thanks for your replies!
Our stairway is not open on either side and there is a low beam at the bottom of the stairs.. I wonder if we'd be able to bend it enough..
This is the only pic I have at the moment to give you an idea of what I'm dealing with (don't mind the mess or DH's attractive work attire, we were ripping up the previous owner's carpet)

Re: King Size Bed - Issues getting into house?
We have a similar type of stairwell - and our Queen box spring wouldn't fit up it, so we had to go get a split box spring (2 pieces) to get it up there
i would think the mattress would work because usually you can bend it enough - but you'll definitely need the box spring to be in two sections.
you should try measuring the opening at the bottom of the stairs and compare it with the width of a king mattress to see how much you'd have to bend it in order for it to fit. if its just a little, you should be able to do it.. if its like bending it in half.. then you won't

The mattress will bend if needed... my king had to be bent a little to get it up the stairs... as for the box spring, i would just get 2 twins instead! HTH

Oh no, I didn't even think about a queen box spring being an issue! We have a queen for our guestroom.
I attempted to measure, but didn't really know what I was doing (from ceiling to straight down or to shortest distance, which is a step or 2 up?)

We have 2 twin boxsprings. They had to bend the mattress to get it up though. It's the upstairs of a cape so it's pretty steep.
Ps, I didn't even realize who this was until I saw the pic!

We don't have a king but we had thought about getting one. Glad we didn't b.c when we moved we couldn't get our Queen boxspring up the stairs. We had to go out and buy a split box. Make sure you measure b/c our movers say many people have that issue esp w/ king beds.

Re: King Size Bed - Issues getting into house?
The king mattress will bend a little - I got my king upstairs in a similar type stair as well. Take the banister off for the move - it will give you a bit more wiggle room.
Measure the width of the stairway, then measure the floor to ceiling height at the lowest point (the beam). It looks like you will definitely need a split boxspring for the queen.
eta : a queen measures 60 x 80 and a king 78 x 80

you should measure from the top of the doorway that leads into your stairwell, straight down and see if you can get the width of a queen box spring in there before you hit any stairs
your stairwell looks a lot like ours - good luck!
taking the bannister off isn't going to do much - its the height of the doorway at the bottom of the steps and the angle of the steps that are the issue
