Kissing your DC in the mouth!

A friend (who I'm not really close to) was holding DC and playing with him....totally fine. However, we were saying our goodbyes and she kissed DC in the mouth a couple of time!! I was in total shock that I couldn't even react (and grossed out!) As I left I grabbed some wipes and cleaned his lips and gave him a bath when we got home. What should I say next we see her or anyone else for that matter? Please don't kiss my baby especially on the lips Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't careif my friends kiss my baby, but not on the lips. And I'd just say, please don't kiss the baby on the lips.

Re: Kissing your DC in the mouth!

THat would highly upset me. I would be hesitant for that friend to get too close to baby again and I would make sure to find a way to say NO kissing on the lips.

I feel the same way. I told DH and he agreed that it was gross but told me not to get so mad. Are you kidding me?? I don't really see her so often so that works out good. But ***?? I think I'm in shock that someone would do that (even though she's a friend). I wouldn't even kiss my own nieces and nephews on the lips. I don't think I'll let her hold him again. You are NOT overreacting. I saw a friend do this once to my cousin's child. I flipped out...couldn't believe someone would do that.

Re: Kissing your DC in the mouth!

if you're worried about how they'll react, you could kind of make a joke about it...like if she does it next time, say "hey!, only mommy is allowed to kiss on the lips!!" then grab him/her and smooch them. perhaps she'll get the hint??

i don't even think twice about smooching babies (of friends/family)...but i never kiss them on the lips.

...actually i take that back, i grab my nephews' faces and smooch them on the lips...now i'm thinking i might be a freak for doing it? lol

Re: Kissing your DC in the mouth!

That's random but in my opinion I wouldn't get that freaked out over it, maybe she honestly didn't even realize what she did. Ya know what I mean? Just wasn't even thinking. I would make a joke of it too. Like "HEY NOW, only Mommy gets the good kisses". or something like that. I don't kiss my friends children on the lips nor my cousins. . .my kisses are reserved for my son and my nephew Chat Icon

Re: Kissing your DC in the mouth!

I come from a family who kisses on the lips, but I still would not do that to a non-family member's child. That being said, I think you're being a little dramatic. You gave your baby a bath because your "friend" kissed him on the lips? I'm finding it more shocking your reaction towards your friend than what they did. I mean, it could have been easily remedied by you asking her not to do that. It's your kid, you can ask anyone to not do anything you want. I'd be a better friend to her and give her the benefit of the doubt that she's not some horrible monster who goes around spreading her germs via her friend's kids.

I would say something if there is a next time. We don't kiss DS on the lips and would definitely not allow anyone else to do it.

If it was a close friend that wouldn't bother me - but if it bothers you, you should say something, maybe gently about how you're a germophobe and you hate when anyone kisses your DC on the lips Chat Icon

You guys!! I agree it's kinda strange and off-putting, but to limit her time with the kid? To give a child a whole bath for a kiss? It's not like she gave the kid a tongue bath or french-kissed him! Of course you're entitled to your feelings but it just seems a bit over-reactive to me.

Just tell people "please don't kiss the baby" and be done with it.

my dd kisses everyone on the lips. and you cannot resist her little lips all puckered looking for kisses.

if it really puts you off, tell her nicely next time not to kiss him on the lips.

I agree with this. There's nothing wrong with saying "please don't kiss my baby on the lips" as long as you're calm and not freaking out when you say it.

what's the bath about???Chat Icon
That was a little dramatic. It's not like your kid has "cooties" b/c of the kiss.

I kiss my kids on the lips every chance I get- which is all day long b/c I'm addicted. However someone else's kid- even a relative... Nope, never. As big as my habit is I wouldn't slip up.

If someone did that I'd reactg like you, minus the bath and I probably lay low. If I witnessed something again I'd say it right then and there. I'd be nice and matter of fact.

As good as the intentions are to say "please don't kiss the baby" it creates an awkward situation to have to worry in that person's presence about when the situation will arise again. And I am sure it's not easy to tell someone that, when it's something some of us feel very uneasy about. That would personally make me furious and it would be pretty hard to be "nice" about it for me. So I guess avoidance makes it easier, which is what the OP seems to feel too. JMO

a year ago I would have cared, but now my youngest has been planting lip kisses on me and everyone. I was shocked at first (b/c he holds your head to get your lips), but now it's more normal.
