Kitchen and bathroom updates?

We are looking into a house that we want to buy that we would re do the kitchens and baths right away..I want to get some ideas of what different options are and don't know where to look?

People who re did their kitchens- where did you get estimates from?

Thank you!

Re: Kitchen and bathroom updates?

we have a 10 by 16 Kitchen. WE had several quotes for cabinets (solid cherry with crown moldings and pullout shelving) all between $9000 and $11000. Appliances were $6000 (french door fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher, all GE) Granite with Install was $3200. Tile and backsplash including tile for foyer area $2100. Lights and ceiling fan $400. Sink and faucet $531. Cabinet pulls and handles $400. Our contractors price for gutting everything including tile work, electric and plumbing $7300. You can get the cabinets cheaper if you go with a different kind of wood. I know people who got cabinets for half of what we paid with a different material and less pullouts and crown moulding. Our cabinets were our splurge as was my Frenchdoor fridge.Chat Icon

Re: Kitchen and bathroom updates?

i can only comment on the bathroom, we need to do everything Kitchen and bathrooms over but are taking it one room a year (might do both bathrooms next year though)

if you do the gut out, buy all the supplies yourself from home depot/tile places etc to hire a handyman to do the install it will run around $3-4,000K depending on the stuff you pick out (this is a normal bathroom not insane tile bathroom and gold fixtures) We are doing the entire job ourselves so we figure $2K but with help from our brother in law who is a handyman/carpenter. If you go with a larger contractor my parents used high end items and paid $10,000 two years ago for their bathroom remodel.

Re: Kitchen and bathroom updates?

Our contractor installed - we got our cabinets from Consumers (Kraftmaid) - which I do NOT recommend. If you plan on spending 15K on cabinets - go custom. You CAN get custom cabinetry for almost the same as stock.

There are so many little things about the cabinets and the island in our house that drive me up the wall that wouldn't be an issue had we gone custom.

There are so many custom cabinet makers out there. Don't think that you just have to go with Consumers or Crown or HD or Lowes. There are other options!!!

We spent $9K on our appliances - cooktop, double ovens, dishwasher, microwave - all GE Profile. Side by side fridge, front loading washer and dryer (with the pedestal drawer things)- all LG. Plus we got all the service plans on everything. So it sounds like a lot, but we got a LOT for our money. PC Richards.

Faucet - Overstock - don't remember the price. I think it was around $250...

All tile we got at Procida Lindenhurst- you can haggle there too. We also went to Cancos in Merrick but the customer service there sucked. They acted like we were homeless people. Chat Icon We did check HD and Lowes - but the colors there were so "standard" - all tumbled marble, or earthy colors. We wanted something different. We have dark green in our master and choc brown in our 1/2.

Bath vanities - 1/2 bath - floor model from Consumers. Master bath - Peter Andrews - tent sale.

All plumbing fixtures, lights, and toilets came from HD or Lowes.

MB Tub came from Consumers.

I also recommend our contractor - Forman Construction - Massapequa - 516-798-4114.

Re: Kitchen and bathroom updates?

custom kitchen cabinetry- including crown moudling, custom hand-mixed finish, all hardware, lazy susans, utility dividers, pull-outs, etc.. should cost approx $265 a lineal foot for sap white hard maple and $285 a lineal foot for hard cherry. This is w/ a regular tongue & groove door- non mitered.

Installations run anywhere from $75-100/lineal foot- although a lot of custom places are throwing that in.

An average 24" custom vanity would be around $500.00 in maple... going up from there depending upon door styles chosen.
