Kitchen appliance color questions

In our new house we have to buy a new refrigerator right away b/c the current refrigerator is not full sized/we want a water dispenser. We want stainless appliances, currently they are all black. We were planning on changing the rest to stainless after the gas conversion in the spring. So, I was wandering around PC Richard the other day and they informed me that wall ovens generally are electric even if a house has gas. Currently there are 2 wall ovens in the house, in black and about 5 years old according to the engineer's report. Assuming there is nothing functionally wrong with them, there may be no reason to change them other than they won't match the stainless appliances. The cabinets are cherry so it's a "dark" room as is and I don't like the way the black appliances look. First question, is there a way to "change" the oven doors? Second, would it make any sense to buy new ovens if the one's there work, just for the sake of the stainless color? My father was going to have a friend cut some stainless to make a panel for the black dishwasher so it matches... it is also new, but my father informed me that he doesn't think he can do the same thing for the ovens b/c there would be nothing to hold the stainless in place. I will be changing the countertop range to a gas one and wanted stainless as well as a stainless range fan. I'm glad on the one hand that we won't have to buy double ovens assuming these work well, but no happy if I have to keep black as the appliance color.

Are you planning on moving/selling anytime soon?

A lot of stainless appliances have black panels or sides - so to me, the black of the oven wouldn't bother me, because it would kind of still match KWIM.

If you are planning on reselling, this could be a turnoff to others even if it doesn't bother you and you might want to replace while you are doing other work.

If you are planning on staying in the home and the look doesn't bother you, then I say go with it.

I don't think it would look bad at all. All of my stainless steel appliances have black trim, like the previous poster pointed out. I wouldn't however, think of it in the resale sense down the road, but what would make me happy now.

Re: Kitchen appliance color questions

We have a black microwave with a black and stainless stove underneath.... And then we have a stainless fridge right next to a black dishwasher... It honestly all blends very well bc of how most stainless has black on the sides anyhow Chat Icon

Re: Kitchen appliance color questions

This is in our new house so, no there is no intention to move for about 30 years. Lol. I just wasn't sure if it would work to have stainless everything and then a black double wall oven. From what it sounds like it will not be the end of the world if it's different from the other appliancescbc it's black and I have noticed the trim on many stainless items is black. Thank you'll for thecinput, one less thing to worry about.

Re: Kitchen appliance color questions

Our appliances where more then 5 years old, but all worked when we moved in. I changed them all any way, because I wanted all Stainless. I didn't want anything mismatched. It really depends on if it will bother you or not. If it doesn't really matter to you, save the money and keep the stoves. If not, I would change all the appliances.

Re: Kitchen appliance color questions

i wouldn't bother changing them. You can always buy stainless steel magnetic strips (or so i hear they sell them now) to just accent a area but honestly i highly doubt you will even care.

Especially if your not selling anytime soon, just like any appliance color stainless steel will be out (may take 10-15 years) and if your planning to stay any longer it will be time to do a new round of appliances anyway.

Re: Kitchen appliance color questions

Magnetic strips sounds interesting. Seriously, I noticed that every stainless appliance out there has some black on it with the exception of some dishwashers. If I can get strips, and it doesn't look too cheesy I'll try it, anyone know where they may sell them? I'm actually more concerned about child locks than the color right this moment. I was just told not all wall ovens have child locks, the lower oven seemed low enough to make for an interesting game of "hide and seek" GFB. I'm all about locking appliances, if there is no way to do it, the ovens will be replaced. My kids currently hang on the bar accross my stand alone oven/range. Fortunately, it locks so no incidents other than many a time out.

Otherwise, if it works I'm not replacing them. In about 5 years we are thinking we will remodel the kitchen anyway. I thought stainless may be more "timeless" b/c all professional kitchens have them, hence where I thought the trend came from. I wonder if black may actually be more "timeless" but it does make the kitchen dark, if I knew I was going to go with lighter cabinets I'd redo it with black instead. I know, my mom has stainless and complains about them and with 2 little kids I know it's going to be a PITA to keep it clean. We just have so many new house things we have to do, one less thing sounds heavenly!
