Kitchen Remodel..who has done it?...any tips
So we are hoping to remodel our kitchen this winter. I am not even sure what we are in for. We are doing it ourselves. We might have to pay a plumber to move the sink and dishwasher around. The current layout doesn't utilize the space in the kitchen. We have to start thinking about a layout so I figured I would ask. Is there anything that you did that you regretted or is there anything that you wished you would have done once it was all over? Thanks.

We redid our kitchen ourselves. We first went to Consumers Kitchen and Baths to set up an appt. They came over and with a computer planned a whole new layout. Then we did the same thing with Home Depot and we used both their ideas to come up with a plan. Believe it or not, Home Depot was thousands more than Consumers and we were comparing similiar cabinetry. We saved thousands by DH doing the work.

We had Home Depot do a layout and then we hired a contractor. We moved our sink and dishwasher. It was extra but so worth it as now my sink is in front of the window and my dishwasher is right next to it. It was across the room from the sink before! I can answer any questions you have as we just finished this. Thanks!

We are in the process of doing this now. We are doing all the work ourselves, and are on a very tight budget. The cabinets are from IKEA, and we kept all the appliances in their original positons. You may want to hire a plumber if you are moving things around. One thing I would make sure is that when you measure the walls for the cabinets, do it when there are actually walls there, not when you are down to the studs. And double and triple check your measurements. We have run into a couple of problems because our measurements were slightly off.......

It's an inconvenience but its worth it in the end, just plan on eating out or making sandwiches . If it helps I used Weisman Discount on hempstead tpke and I think I got nice cherry cabinets for much less than Consumers.
