kitchen sink in island?

We are starting to plan our kitchen remodel and I am thinking that I would like to have our sink in an island so I can be facing the main kitchen while at the sink and won't have my back to everything. DH doesn't think I will like having my main sink in the island.


Does anyone have this? Do you like it? Pros/cons?

Anyone have pics?

We have our sink in our island and the dishwasher right next to it underneath.

Its all very convenient and I love having it there.........I also face the main part of the house this way as well.

While I'm no help on the functionality of this design...I think it looks really nice in a kitchen. It gives the look of the island something extra and gives you more room in general to spread out. My bosses house has one and I only used the sink on one occasion but thought it was awesome while I was there helping her cleanup. Also, it was a nicer view for her since if she had the sink anywhere else she'd be staring at the cabinets.

I have this and love it. We also have a second (small) sink next to the fridge. Pics in my album. We are planning to replace the countertops and sink this spring but will keep the same setup.

Where are your refrigerator and stove going? The three should make a nice working space traingle. The island could be the best place for it.

Yes! a friend of mine put her sink, dishwasher and garbage in the island in the middle of her kitchen and it really came out good. Its different, no one really does that.I think you should go for it

Part of the reason I want it in the island is to make my work triangle better, with the current arrangement of the windows, if they were all along the wall, they'd end up being far apart - it looks like we will have to replace one floor to ceiling window with a shorter window, but I would hate to lose a wondow completely - i like the natural light

This is similar to what I am thinking - I used the IKEA software, so was limited to what they offer for cabinets - I did modify a few things in photoshop



but right now, the kitchen is all along one wall and there is almost no counter space and no dishwasher, the room is good sized but set up poorly, there is also a half bath in there that we plan to relocate elsewhere.

this "desk" has been removed and the half bath will be coming out next (also please ignore the colors, this image is from when we painted the house and I was playing with different color schemes in photoshop)

We don't have this set up now, but it's something I've thought about if/when we remodel. I would like a sink & dishwasher in the island.
I think it's great look.
