Definitely the bowl lift, 6qt. I prefer the bigger bowl size because I'm a heavy baker.

I have the 6qt Professional (bowl lift) and it's AWESOME. I've had mine about 20 years now, use it almost daily and still works perfectly.

They are still hard to find in stock, especially on the Kitchen Aid website. Have you tried Williams Sonoma or Sur La Table? Kohls or Macy's? Good luck. Chat Icon

Re: Kitchenaid Stand Mixer

i have the smaller one with the tilt head.
DS gave it to me as a mother's day gift... so i LOVE it, but i would have preferred the bigger bowl with the bowl lift.

i don't bake anywhere near as much as hofstra does... but i love this thing. making her cheesecake in this bad boy is so much fun.

that reminds me, i have another request for a cheesecake for next week. time to buy cream cheese.

but yeah, go for the bigger one with the bowl lift... you won't regret it.

I have the tilt head, but I purchased the ceramic bowl which fits on the artisan and it is the larger bowl, so for me it is the best of both worlds. More compact size with the larger bowl.

I saw QVC and Crate and Barrel sell them. Not sure if they have the one you specifically want.

I wanted to make Christmas cookies and every single store was sold out of these mixers. I ended up finding one on Facebook marketplace
Check on there if anyone is selling for a good price

If you don't want to wait for a Kitchen Aid to come back in stock, Cuisinart makes a nice stand mixer and it's less money too. My daughter got it for her birthday a few years ago and I will use it periodically if I am baking a lot at once and need two mixers. They might be easier to find in stock.

Does the paddle have a hard time getting the whole bowl? I have the tilt head from like 10 years ago, but I'm a pretty heavy bake so the bigger capacity would be nice!

I had to replace mine this summer as it died after 10 years. I had a hard time finding one, but i was able to get the color i wanted, in stock at Crate and Barrel. And could use a coupon.

I can't help with a suggestion, since mine has been in the box since my bridal shower... but check QVC. They usually have a ton of colors.

I have a tilt head. I don't use it a ton because it's in a cabinet and a pain to get down because it's so heavy.

I just did a quick search and both QVC and Kohl's have in stock. Good luck!

there is a little left, so I do have to use a rubber spatula to really get into the bottom to make sure everything is fully mixed, but the larger size of the bowl honestly makes up for it. I bought the gardenia version. It is pale blue. Note the entire thing is ceramic, so I am much more careful making sure that it fits into the groves of the base. But the capacity is so much larger than my old bowl that I really feel it was worth it. https://www.kitchenaid.com/countertop-appliances/stand-mixers/accessories/p.5-quart-white-gardenia-ceramic-bowl.ksm2cb5pwg.html Edit my artisan is from 2003. I think the original bowl was 4.5 and this is 5. It makes a difference for me.

On Amazon, you can also buy a paddle for the Kitchen Aid that has a spatula scrape on one side, it's not perfect but it really helps to scrape everything from the sides as it mixes.

Just an FYI, no matter how good a mixer is you will need to stop it periodically and scrape down the bowl, there really isn't any way around this. The only way to get everything fully incorporated it to scrape the bowl as needed throughout the mixing process. Chat Icon

Re: Kitchenaid Stand Mixer

Only somewhat related to this topic.... For Christmas, I 3D printed a new front cap for DW's KitchenAid mixer, where the attachments go. Nothing wrong with the one she had, but it's the standard metal "KitchenAid" cover. I made her one with her name across it, in a matching red color on a silver cap.
Doesn't affect the mixer, but I think it looks cool, and she's the only one in the world with a cap like that. Chat Icon

Oh I know, I bake A LOT. Lol! But I've seen some where it barely grazes the bottom so a small batch is all but wasted in the mixer, ya know? My mom and I are hobbyist bakers, but we usually do the bulk baking at my moms house- she has the lift bowl mixer.

I have a tilt head and it’s ancient but it still works just like a new one. They’re expensive but they’re a pretty good investment. Check their website, I just checked and they still have a few left, not a lot but a few...
