Kitty has blood and crystals in urine

What the vet and I thought was a UTI is now blood and crystals in the urine. I have spent over 2K since July 5th on vet bills and about done for the summer until I go back to work.
The vet wants to do x-rays but kitty responded well to the medication but I am scared...I just got pet insurance and it kicks in next week but the vet said she is not covered. that is why I got the insurance for them.
What should I do?? I love my cat so much and although she was crying and in pain she is back to normal now, but the vet wants x-rays?????
Help with any info appreciated!!

Maybe you can see if he's willing to defer payment to make it look like kitty was checked out after she had insurance instead of before. Remind him of how you've always paid up front and by doing this it would help out a lot seeing as how you've spent so much so far. Good luck!
