Knitters I need help!
When you finish knitting a row and you go to start the second row how do you start?
I have been changing hands w/ the needles (ie: I will knit yarn onto the right needle from the left. When that row is finished, I take the needle I have in my right hand and place it in my left and my left needle in my right and continue). The problem is that when I do this w/ my pearl-stitched work, it's like I am "flipping" it. Like there is no "right" side and "wrong" side. Both sides of the work look the same and almost ribbed. My work is not looking how it should because of it, but I see no other way of doing it. How in the world are you supposed to change rows and maintain a right and wrong side. None of the books I have explain this.

I am certainly no expert...but I will try to explain. When you get to the end of the row (assuming you are knitting onto the right needle from the left), you turn the work around, so that you are starting over again with the work on the left needle...and knitting onto the right needle. This way, there is a front/back. I hope that made sense.

Re: Knitters I need help!
It sounds like you are doing it correctly. Could you possibly post some of the specific directions for the pattern?

When you start a row, the knitted work is on the left needle. The yarn is on the right side. With the first stitch the yarn is moved to the right needle and stays there until you complete the row. Once the row is finished, the needle in your right hand is moved to your left hand and the empty needle is on the right again.
It sounds like you are doing garter stitch from what you describe- ROW 1: knit ROW 2: knit (If you purl every row, you will create this same stitch pattern) *This has no "right" or "wrong" side
If you want to do stockinette stitch (St st)- ROW 1: knit ROW 2: purl *The knit side is the "right" side (unless you are doing reverse stockinette- then the purl side is the "right" side)
Which one of the above have you been doing?

Re: Knitters I need help!
Ok, now it makes sense. So if I pearl every stitch, then there is no right or wrong side. That's only created when you alternate knits and pearls...
Thanks for the help ladies! I really thought I was doing something wrong because both sides looked the same. The books are confusing sometimes.

Does the pattern say to purl every row? Usually when you do garter stitch, you knit every row. Can you show me some of the pattern? What are you making?
