Know anything about the OUTER BANKS of NORTH CAROLINA?
We're looking to rent a house on the beach (or at least very near the beach) next summer. There are so many different areas though, I don't know where to begin. Anyone have any tips? (Looking for an area with a great beach, family friendly, stuff to do, restaurants, bars etc.)

Haven't been there yet but looking forward to going in the near future. Some of our immediate family just moved to Hatteras,NC last week. Here is a previous post that might help:

yup!
my parents have a vacation down there on Cape Hatteras.
Cape Hatteras is a national seashore, so a lot of it is preserved. there is still a lot of stuff to do and restaurants, etc (my parents house backs up to a min golf course) ... BUT its much more "quiet" than other areas. but its an incredible place to just relax and not do much for a week 
if you're looking for more nightlife, bars, etc... i would look into other areas: Duck, Nags Head, Kitty Hawk.

you can search all of their websites for the type of house you're looking for and most of them have pictures, etc to help you decide.

you're going to have a great time!! in may we stayed in frisco which is a little further out than nags head. we're staying in avon next year.

We have gone twice, both times to Whalehead Beach (near Corolla)---not a ton of nightlife per se, but we always went with other couples, so most nights were spent in the hot tub with drinks, playing games etc. I like whalehead because we could walk to the grocery store and there are cute little shops acoss the main street with restaurants and mini golf/gocarts etc. The beach is beautiful as well----we are going back in 2 weeks, this time as a family trip with kids, I am so looking forward to it!
