Lab bills / routine tests
Does anyone know if fragile X, cystic fibrosis and SMN1 screening are routine tests?
I just got a $200 bill from a lab for these three tests...Not sure why my insurance didn't or wouldn't cover it all.

I have Aetna also. I thought my policy was pretty decent too. I guess I will have to call them. This happened to me once before with a routine blood test for an annual physical and AETNA ended up picking it up, but it is just annoying, I feel like I always have to call to get them to pay.

Is the lab in network? I had a few issues in the past that they used a lab that wasn't in network. The tests would have been covered if it was done at a different lab.

Re: Lab bills / routine tests
I have Cigna and my dr told me to call to confirm that fragile x and sma testing were covered - they were not. They aren't considered mandatory. I wasn't told to check about cystic fibrosis, just the other two. I was told the two tests would cost $2K, but that I could call for a reduction. Waiting on my bill . . . and the results of the lab work for that matter.
I found it very odd that these tests weren't covered, especially since my OB recommended them.

My OB didn't give me this info, let alone tell me what they were testing for. Which kind of annoys me too.

Lab bills / routine tests
I have united health, there are a lot of "routine" blood tests that are not covered in my insurance so they were processed Out of Network.

I posted about this a bunch a couple weeks ago, it was so frustrating. I just didn't understand why routine testing wouldn't be covered. And I also didn't really feel like it was my job to be checking what is/isn't covered with my insurer!!

Re: Lab bills / routine tests
I have Cigna and I just received an $80.00 bill for routine blood work. I called and they said the majority was covered but not all. Stinks.
