Lack of support/supervision (SWers c'mon in!)
Argh, I am so frustrated!!!! I am a social worker and a lot of the clients I work with have severe mental illness which makes work challenging to begin with. My supervisor (who is not a social worker btw which is another frustration) had me call a meeting with one client and his psychiatrist this afternoon to discuss some major concerns which are creating a huge liability for our program/agency. Well, my supervisor just backed out of the meeting. This is like the second or third time he's done something like this and told me "to go deal with it". I know I can hold my own well, but I think it creates a better presence when you have someone "in authority" with you backing you up. I am just so frustrated and annoyed.
I know there are other social workers on here so do you have any advice? I work with a couple other "social workers" and we vent to one another, but it's still not the same as getting real supervision and support with major problems with clients. Leaving is not an option right now. TIA!!!
