Ladder of success
They say when trying to get to the top, sometimes you have to step on people to get what you want. Would you do this? I dont think I would maliciously try to hurt anyone BUT if it were in terms of an interview me vs my opposition, I would totally kick a@@ trying to get to the top.

I've also heard those you step on during your climb to ladder of success will be happy to kick you on your way back down.

My ladder of success does not include stepping on anyone.

Re: Ladder of success
I am doing pretty well for myself. I never had to step on anyone. I wouldn't want to be at the top without my integrity.

I've been stepped on...but, haven't stepped on anyone else. I might though- depending on who it was

Re: Ladder of success
I am actually surprised to hear this being that for the most part we have all had to cut someone down to get where we are. For example, my college program I kicked butt on my interview. They only accepted 200 people into the program so I made sure I looked really good. Also in my current position as a social worker, It was me vs another candidate and I made sure I gave it my all to beat out this other person. I dont necessarily think you have to know the person to actually knock out other candidates to get to where you are. I would never maliciously do anything like lying about another candidate but I would always give my all to climb the ladder of success.

I have as well. These are the same people with smiles on their faces and knives behind their backs. I keep them very close and watch carefully!

IMO ...its the same thing with a prettier title. JMO would you consider the apprentice putting your best foot forward or cutting people down?

Re: Ladder of success
When you are doing your best job, putting your best foot forward.
When you are trashing your opponents to the TV or the boss/judge that's cutting people down.
I was hired out of 100 other candidates for my job. I never met them, but I did my best- and I got the job. I don't think that is cutting people down.

I disagree. I don't think it's not the same thing at all.
And the apprentice, I don't watch it too much, but I think some of them seem like they are just trying to do their best, and others, well, I think they are nasty backstabbers who will do WHATEVER it takes to get where they want to be, including cutting another person down and telling lies to get what they want.

I agree with Red. I am sure they are encouraged to do that on the Apprentice - it makes for good TV.
I have been very successful in all of the jobs I have had and I think it is partly because of the repsectful treatment I give others in the workplace, not in spite of it.

Re: Ladder of success
I think taking the apprentice and classifying it as "different" then the rest of us is crazy. These are all regular people that work beside all of us. They all were applying for a job the way we all do. There behavior to me was no shocking then sitting in a board meeting with my staff here. I dont think everything on the apprentice was fake. I think we saw alot of the same behaviors that many people carry. In addition, the people who won are working in REAL jobs right now. I think they spited others the same way everyones been spited by someone.

I guess then it depends on your definition of success. Getting kicked off a reality TV show and going back to whatever job you had before that is not my definition of making it to the top.
ETA: I only saw the first Apprentice season and I don't think Bill, the winner mistreated people at all.

Huh? I didnt say that everyone was sucessful. I said that these people were on a TV show trying to become sucessful and the behaviors they exhibited were cutting each other down to get to their ultimate goal...to win the apprentice.

I misunderstood what you were saying then, sorry. I think when people act that way, it is fairly obvious and eventually it catches up with them.
