Re: Ladies - help me get up the nerve to RESIGN
When does the new job start!?
The nerve to resign...heck, type that resignation letter up!
Do you need a standard letter?

After everything you have been through, just walk up to the boss and say "Hi. I have news. My last day will be ____. Thanks." and walk away!

Congrats on the new job!!!!!!
Don't be afraid, actually, you can type out something and then walk in and hand it to him/her and say thank you for everything, my last day will be whenever.

make sure you have the new offer in WRITING!!
I would draft a very generic letter of resignation. you can find them by doing a google search

Wait, wait, wait! Do you have the offer in writing and have you accepted it yet? If not, don't resign until you do!
You don't quit first and accept later!

I was told many times that even written offers aren't legally binding.

while that may be true - it has to hold more water than a verbal offer

i would think that a written offer is more binding and shows a greater commitment than just a verbal one.
At the end of the day, written or verbal, it may mean nothing, but I have to think that there's less a chance of that happening if you have something in writing.

Re: Ladies - help me get up the nerve to RESIGN
just like ripping off a bandaid...quick and painless...just run in, throw your resignation letter on their desk and run back out!
just kidding, just go in and tell the truth. you've been offered a position you cannot pass up. you have to do whats best for you and your family so even if they get pizzy or upset, thats too bad for them, theyll get over it.
good luck and congrats to you!!!!!

No offer of employment, save for a signed employment contract, is binding. (VERY few people work under contract)
HOWEVER, a written offer clearly shows more of a commitment to actually hire you IMHO than a verbal offer. I'd definitely not resign before I accepted the offer either.
I'd say "I'd like to accept, but I plan to offer my company two weeks notice effective today." Something like that - they will understand.

How about tying some misletoe to the back belt loop of your pants, with a sign that says "Christmas came early for me, got a new job, now kiss my AZZ!"
OR
You can write a letter stating what a wonderful experience you had there, how you learned so much, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Congrats on the new job!

Re: Ladies - help me get up the nerve to RESIGN
Ok it's 5:15....still haven't been able to get in there, she has been on the phone.....
eta 5:48pm. DONE....boy that was tough. She took it very personally (she owns the company). She said she thought something was up. I told her I did not feel that this position was a good fit professionally and I felt the need to move on. We talked a bit more and she basically insinuated I should leave her office...
She stopped by just now and told me she was very hurt by this. I said it really is not anything personal but a business decision.
I DO NOT WANT TO RESIGN FROM ANOTHER JOB FOR AT LEAST 20 YRS LOL! I AM DONE!
